This nut may not believe in fairies and the supernatural, but his mind has taken off on a mystical flight of impossible fancy nonetheless.
He really does believe that libertarianism can work. Of course, in order to believe that you also have to believe that it's possible for damned near all consumers to have perfect knowledge of the market -- completely real time and all-inclusive -- and always to make the best decision for their interests.
All of the economic models of libertarian systems that I've seen show that if this is
not
true, then things get very bad very quickly. We know that neither of those premises are true. To even consider trying libertarianism is completely irresponsible.
But I don't think it's necessary to lock him up in lieu of outpatient psychiatric treatment. He's not necesarily a danger to others as long as he's not in public office.
