They did, after all, get killed when they went after him for being corrupt.  They had a good case, too, but they really screwed it up.

Still, they could have lit into him with this one, but they held back.  They're not serving their readers if they leave room to think McCain might be competent.

If he doesn't understand the relationships in the Middle East at this late date, he's too old to start learning new tricks now.

He's either not paying intention/is incompetent OR he's just too God damn old, which led him to be confused and say the wrong thing.

Neither scenario is desirable for a potential president.

Was the McCain story a screw up? Did they trump up the affair angle to sell papers. Or did the trump up the affair to take attention away from the (real) corruption story.

The news media seems to have developed a habit of screwing up negative storys concerning Pubs, don't you think.

Remember the Bush National Guard story, remember how the right wing blogs "knew" (within hours) that those documents were forgeries? (despite the fact that documents released from the Bush administration have the same "markings" on them)
