I agree with your post and think Obama was right on. Although I believe in many liberal principles, I feel the major flaw in current democratic thought is far too much faith in the competence of government. Accpeting personal responsibility for self protection and local community ties through religion are a very rational response to failure of government.
No matter who gets elected, people better prepare themselves for more "failures", as the road is only going to get bumpier going forward. Bad housing market, skyrocketing commodities prices, falling dollar, difficult lending environment, mounting debts of all kinds, slowing economy, rising inflation, continued outsourcing ....No matter how many handouts the Fed gives, or how many $600 checks the IRS sends out, these problems will take quite a while to work themselves out. People expecting Obama (or Hillary) to ride in as white knights and solve them all will be sorely disapointed.
