I couldn't find anything in the linked story as to how white people view Cindy McCain. How can any discussion about perception of wives even begin without that little nugget? For all we know, she only has a 1% favorable rating among whites (doubt it). If we are to compare and contrast, we need the rest of the data.
Why should she have been included in a poll, anyhow? She's not running for anything. Might as well ask about the kids favorables, too. Or parents. Again, incomplete information, as the article doesn't tell us what the "Don't know/no opinion" or actual "unfavorable" numbers are. I would ONLY be concerned about actual "unfavorable" numbers.
(It's the same problem I have when Bush's poll numbers are announced. The lead shouldn't be how many approve when the number who disapprove is larger. Why is the statement always framed as "Bush has the lowest approval ratings in U.S. history" instead of "Bush has highest disapproval ratings in U.S. history"?)
None of this is intended to suggest that racism is not a problem. I do not go along with the MSM's popular idea that we are somehow in a "post racial" society simply because Obama was nominated. My point in this is that the deck was stacked in this news article.
The GOOD part of race relations noted in the article, which I think is something more telling than all the other crap combined, is the number of Latino/Hispanic numbers supporting Obama. I've been hearing for a year that "they" wouldn't support a black person, which I thought was a lot of hooey all along, and I am refreshed that these numbers seem to support my faith.
On a touchy side note - what do you think her "approval" rating would be if she was ugly as hell? Would that outweigh "blackness"? Would Michelle have higher numbers if Cindy was a hag? No, I'm not kidding. I'm pretty damn sure that Dennis Kucinich would have been taken more seriously if he looked like Mitt Romney instead of a close relative of Bilbo Baggins. The MSM has effectively reduced Presidential campaigns to Prom King popularity contests where facade carries more weight than substance. America loses again.
I was also confused as to why the reportera added the utterly useless comments about the Obamas from an obvious Republican in Democrat's clothing. Why a quote from the fringiest of the fringe of Right Wing Democrats? Anyone who supports J.C.Watts doesn't have a progressive bone in their body. How many others of his ilk were involved in the poll? How many of the 1000 white people were "Democrats" like this guy?
Feels like grain of salt time....
