Although I would like to.
Americans DO NOT LIKE people that tell them the truth. Most politicians know this. Reagan won because people would rather believe a sweet lie than a hard truth. Bush was able to shove supply side economics down our throat AGAIN - even when it had been proved not to work under Reagan - because people want to believe they can get something for nothing.
Yes, people are hungry for change. But they are often scared of the specifics. Some things sure - screw the rich, screw the credit card companies, etc.....
Most things though if you give "change" any specifics, you just give your opponents something to chew on. Remember universal healthcare under Hillary in the early 90's? What could be more of "duhhh, of course I want that"? But they were able to SCARE people with it.
So Obama talks about change and makes people say "YEAH!" He can talk about how badly the Repubs have screwed various things up. But he wisely shys away from specifics because then Repubs can't scare people about his plans as effectively.
Higher taxes for the rich is an exception. The Repubs really can't scare people about this because they KNOW what rich is and they aren't it.
Cenk, I would love to live in a world or a country where what you are saying would work. But it requires that the bulk of the country be more adult and more intelligent than they actually are. Repubs understand this and treat the electorate like children - and that's why they win so often.
