What bothers me is that the Republican party uses these types of things as fear tactics to remain in power.  That whole "making money from it" is a serious issue when corporations purchase elections.

Why, I wonder, is no one asking why he is so keen to do this system?  It was first sold as a deterrent against North Korea before he finally found out that the real pending threat was Al Qaida and Bin Laden, just like his counter-terrorism chief had been telling him for 9 months.  Now in its revived form it is billed as a defending Europe against Iran.  I suppose nobody would have taken him seriously if he pretended it was there to defend the US against an Iranian missile attack, since they don't have that capability.
