I think you're right when you say it's a good move politically, but I hate the fact that it's at the expense of the economy. In trying to appease the Republicans the stimulus gained a ton of idiotic tax cuts that are counter intuitive. If the Democrats want to beat the Republicans they have to fight fire with fire. If they grow some balls and go head on against the conservatives, instead of being so damned polite to them, they would still win the public over because they're in the right. When the Democrats compromise their proposals with conservative values like this their ideas don't work, but if Democrats show the country that liberal ideas do work then they can stop being failing moderates and start being actual Democrats.

  what  kind  of  thinking  is  it  that  believes  that  because  it  is  a  democratic  proposal  it  will  somehow  just  magicly  work. The  package  they  are  offering  now  is  not  one  that  will  do  anything  for middle  america, and  the  republicans  dont  want  anything  to  do  with  it  because  it  goes  against  thier  fundemental  principles.  And  the  only  reason  obama  went  to  such  links  to  get  the republicans  on  board  is  because  if  it  passes  as  is  and  fails  his  party  could  say  well  it  is  not  all  our  fault. if  it  passes  as  is  yes  it  will  be  all  his  fault. And  that  is  to  bad  because  the  one  who  should  be  blamed  is  Nancy  FLIES  HER  CORPERATE  JET  HOME  ON  THE  WEEKENDS  pulosi.  I  mean  tax  payer  funded  jet
