acramer, I share your wish for meaningful discussions, and it sounds like the vast majority here at TYT do as well.  The overly reactive and stubbornly ideological minority clearly have a different aim, but fortunately for us, we are not on the "losing" end.  We gain through every exchange.

"I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend your right to say it. Disagree fine, but don't throw the chance for real interchange out the window."

If they do throw it out the window, it's because they are incapable of receiving the message and therefore the insight.  And when babies cry, of course our instinct is to take care of them.  But, presuming everyone here can at least figure out how to feed themselves and dispose of their own poop, there is nothing more you are obligated to do for them.  Please keep posting - the rest of us do "hear" you.
