Hi everyone,
MedfordTim told me , this subject comes up a lot, many people ask themthelve this question, so ti's really something people want to know. It's totally worth discussing, because Cenk is in a unique position to make the case for or aginst it. As a turkish american host, he would not be viewed as turkish propaganda, nor american propaganda. He would argue without slogans, like he always does. Very few people on either side ave the credibility that Cenk has on this subject, that's why I was interested in his advice.
It's pretty common to have a black guy and a white guy on a show. But how many times do you see a turk and an armenian? I just thought it would be worth hearing how they feel about this.
But If no one is interested, let's move to someting else...
That would be really appreciated.
Maybe it's worth renaming some of theese clips. If they can be found easily, it would prevent this toppic from recurring.
Someone, a relative newbie like yourself, mentions Armenian genocide. Someone else (correctly) makes the point that just because Cenk is Turkish does not mean he has a special insight into the topic. Others (Medford Tim is a given) jump in and scream at you for bringing up something that has been "done to death" and is "past history"; thus irrelevant. A no-name poster chimes in with "it never happened, so why discuss it?". A link is provided to a rather alarming letter Cenk wrote in his student days that flies in the face of evidence and insists the stories of genocide are all propaganda. Cenk himself never weighs in. Alleged YouTube links promising a revised take on the Uygur view do not materialize.
Repeat as necessary.
Cenk being turikish makes him more likely to care.
I was in the USA, some years ago, when a controversy about switzerland was discussed by senator D'Amato. It regarded the money form the holocaust's victims that was sitting in the swiss banks and never returned to the survivors. Some of my friends have asked me " Hey, you're swiss, what do you think about the swiss banks stealing holcaust's vicitms?" I answered them the best I could. I thought it was a legitimate question to ask me, and as a swiss, I had another point of view that was worth listening to. And as a swiss I was more likely to care. For the exact same reasons, Cenk's opinion about the genocide will more interesting that another american citizen's advice.
I admit you were polite this time. I was referring more to dismissive replies like shmoab's.
You are wrong (still) about the older thread referenced above. Those interested can go look and decide for themselves.
