that you are saying we should try to understand why terrorists are bombing people in Palestine and New York? I just want to be very clear here. The underlying issue I took with your original post was that conservatives are hypocritical when it comes to terrorists. If its a conservative domestic terrorist we need to "understand" where he's coming from. If its a palestinian terrorist, he's not human and his motivations don't factor into our prevention efforts. Karl Rove accused liberals of offering "therapy" to terrorists for advocating the same position that you are here.

I understood where that particular shooter (the one in TN) was coming from. I also said that he obviously had some mental issues or afflictions that seriously hampered his ability to determine right and wrong, or at least it interrupted his ability to care about such limitations... As for "foreign" terrorists, I don't think its very difficult to understand why they attack us, or why they do what they do - it really depends on context and understanding both sides of an issue - something neither Conservatives nor Liberals are very good at doing. :)

so do you agree that terrorists "hate us for our freedoms". Now I'll admit that even I was susceptible to this rhetoric in the days and weeks after 9-11. But the question is, as time passes, and as you're trying you're level best to dismantle and undermine your enemy, are generalizations like this accurate or even productive? George W. Bush caste domestic political opposition, however mild, as "giving succor to the enemy". I'd like to remind you that Bush had a 95% approval rating on Sept 15th. Was it acceptable in your view for Rove and Bush to divide Americans this way in the face of an "existential threat"?

I'm laying 50:1 odds that Bobo gets the wrong answer.

Is that there are no such thing as "right" and "wrong" answers in dealing with these sorts of issues - there is only ones opinions and differing degrees of agreement or disagreement - My opinion of Bush and company is as follows - I for one am still somewhat of a conspiralist when it comes to 9/11 - I believe in the concept of Occhams (sp) Razor - the simplest explanation of an event is usually the correct one - It seems more plausible to me that our government conspired to take those buildings down to use as a catalyst for future events rather than believing that 19 guys who used to live in caves all came here, learned to fly jet airliners, boarded 4 seperate planes all at the same time at 4 seperate locations and coordinated a timed attack within an hour of each other using things as simple as a fucking box cutter they give the stock boys at grocery stores everyday... That being said, I believe that Bush's and Rove's actions were somewhat preordained and rehearsed, therefore not giving them much creedence to begin with - It was always the plan to divide and conquer the thoughts and minds of the American people in order to slide their agenda through without too much opposition (other than from the Dennis Kucinich crowd). It was wrong of them to decieve us, but people who are willing to kill thousnads of Americans really don't care about right and wrong... As for terrorism in general, and ways to "combat" it, different situations require different types of solutions, no one way being as effective as the other - in terms of Middle Eastern terrorism, one must understand that this is a conflict dating back to the 1000s and some would say earlier - only now are we in an era that information and mass communication where bad shit can affect a mass population relatively quickly. I'm gonna stop now - my thumbs are tired on this damn Blackberry! :)
