I think that the collapse of the WTC did more harm to the US than some other reason for a war in the middle east would have. If they wanted an excuse they would just have targeted a smaller military instalation, kinda like in the Gulf of Tonkin.

they could have easily arranged for an off-course passenger jet to be shot down by Iraq, you would have had 90% of Americans calling to nuke bagdad the next day.

911 was flogged hard for a purpose but there were 1000 easier and quicker ways to get any middle east war started.
