I don't know, this is probably way off base, I'm only mentioning it because no one else has, but what about David Letterman? The American public's attention span is notoriously short lived, and she seemed to thrive on it. In a very short time she went from being a housewife to a business woman to mayor to governor to potential VP, that's got to be a head rush. Nothing beside crack cocaine was going to compete with that afterwards, except for maybe running again, which I'm not saying she won't. She can't go back to being mayor of a small town. Perhaps the people in her inner circle see Alaska as the small town on the big stage. But that is neither here nor there. My point is, the level of vitriol a few weeks ago, the outrage, exposed a crack in the men are from Mars women are from Venus universe, for however short lived a time. The consensus afterwards was that Letterman goofed, he went too far, perhaps he's a bit out of touch or perhaps his timing was off, perhaps he's not as funny as he used to be or perhaps the bounds of what is proper, in good taste and appropriate need to be stretched for comedians. But even among people who thought, OK, enough already, I don't like either of them, they still thought, in many cases he was as wrong as Imus, or worse, and that the rest of us just didn't really get it. I think for a minute she probably received the level of support in this tiny niche, fox feminazi nuts, is that even a demographic, like soccer moms, that was at the level she got last year, probably the same people who hate Barack and are just waiting for the rest of us to find out that he is back on cocaine, is a secret muslim and that his birth certificate was falsified, and are waiting for her in the wings to swoop in or something. I don't know, I think fame like that is addicting.

Like I said I'm probably way off base. But we had all that recent real news, from Iran to Honduras to Korea plus the celebrity deaths, and she was off the front pages for a week. I'm just trying to imagine if the Imus thing had blown over in the same way if there would have been some kind of backlash. I think the people supporting her are fickle too though, and probably like the teabag joe plumber crowd, they've probably got a shorter attention span than the rest of us, shorter than the average bear. I think she got herself worked up into a real huff, then everyone forgot about it, maybe Willow through a temper tantrum, maybe under the radar Dave tried to personally make an effort to apologize we didn't hear about it and it made things even worse, and then she's just like, that's it, I'm outta here.

Personally I hope it was an affair though, or money. Whatever happened to the trooper scandal? What about that airplane on eBay. As I recall they both turned out to be nothing very substantial. Was there a connection to Ted Stevens, though? And I thought I remembered something about her webmaster on her campaign for 2012 (to "enlist" her, which she's running, ironic) worked for the state in her office, but had a subcontracting tie to Todd, and that they did work on oh some yellow river or some such that then ended up personally benefiting both families. In other words they steered a no-bid contract to a shell company which was really a subcontracting firm tied to Todd and this guy who was the husband of one of her employees, and then say in addition to that illegality they used some of the extra sand or gravel or whatever at their own homes. I don't know, I remember I did some research last year on it but then ran into dead ends and then she lost and I forgot about it.

Whatever you do, don't click this link (studies show you're more likely if you shouldn't)
