It wasn't reported widely because 40% of America probably agrees with him. The media is not going to try and piss off the Protestants by questioning a man's faith. The expectation that the Apocalypse is unfolding as we speak is very popular with the end of the 20th century. While one might not subscribe to the theory, maybe there is a small part in the back of the mind that says, maybe, I'll wait and see.
Giving a biblical overtone to the war is probably better than saying, he tried to kill my dad so I have to go kill him. In truth Bill Clinton was on the verge of expanding the action against Saddam. With the ineffectiveness of the UN sanctions it was either attack or end the sanctions.
The inability of the sanctions to make any progress in Iraq was more responsible for the war than Bush's whisperings in the night. With the war on terror in full bore, America could not afford to back down to Saddam. Also, Bush wanted to demonstrate to the world that America was the sole superpower and it would act in its own interest regardless what the UN thought(cowboy).
The experience in Iran will be no different. Look for a crunch time in June 2010 when American troops are scheduled to return home. Just as with Iraq, the cost to relocate the troops will weigh as heavily as the cost to pick a fight. Pres Obama will be forced to decide whether his strategy of unclenching the fist as born fruit or if the Israelis are right. That should be interesting.
Don't waste your vote, vote Green or Independent in the next election.
