Okay, so I'm reading this book right now which is written by the guy who created oppodepot.com which is a political site created to collect opposition "rumors" on various political candidates. What's interesting is that he really created this site as a social experiment (incidentally, he was the same guy who created "flashmobs").

Anyway, during this social experiment he specifically tried three angles. First he ran a test period where he ran negative stories about both sides (Dems and Repubs) equally. Then he ran a test period where he ran negative stories only about the GOP. Finally, he did a test period where he ran only negative stories about the Democrats.   The results for the bipartisan mudslinging test period were off the charts - and the site was very successful. However, once the site began running negative stories about only one party, the traffic deeply declined. It seems that the only time the site was booming was when BOTH sides were engaged.

Therefore, if the ultimate goal of the TYT forum is traffic, hype, hits and activity then this forum needs to remain balanced... There are many sites where progressives can go to interact with other progressives... however, they probably won't be as popular as a site where you've got a lot the opposing side there.  Sometimes I even think that perhaps the reason the administrators won't get rid of some of the trolls (who shall remain nameless) is because they know that this back/forth increases participation and followers.

I don't know... just a thought...

When we have some real conservatives join the forum I look foward to debating them.

I and others have just come to the conclusion that trying to have a discussion with individuals who repeat the same talking points, post the same stupid photoshopped photo's, have an over inflated since of their own importance and insist on regailing the forum with their imagined exploits and accomplishments which taken as a whole make them the most educated, most successful, most athelitic, most sexual person to have ever walked the planet.

In other words we are tired of dealing with either a compulsive liar or a very delusional individual who obviously needs to adjust his meds.

Personally I think he has a Jesus Complex, after all he does say he is here to convert the young "My goal is to convert young liberals from voting Democrat, to voting Republican or Libertarian."
Here note the title and the comment

"My goal is to convert young liberals from voting Democrat, to voting Republican or Libertarian. In order to accomplish this, I need to make them feel ashamed and embarrassed about ever having voted Democrat. I need to make them feel revulsion and disgust for the Democrat Party."

I dont really care what his goal or motives are.

He is a hate filled loathsome creature that doesnt deserve my time .

is the back and forth.

The subject of the boycott thinks so too, as long as you are the "back" and he is the "forth". As soon as the subject is bested or the subject of a mild joke, out comes the knives, either in that thread, or in other threads, where the insults fly.

I have yet, after years of trying, to have a conversation about serious issues with the boycott subject simply because that is not his goal. He will not honestly discuss anything. Period. When you engage him and concede even the littlest point, out comes the victory dance replete with insults. So the debate he claims to crave is in reality an Internet version of the Charlie Brown and Lucy football trick.

Every thread is a tired rehash of GOP/ pundit talking points, dishonestly presented in such a way to belittle and ridicule the participants or hijack the conversation into a flame contest. The "I'm rich and you're a loser" theme permeates his post. The obvious reason he participates is a heretofore undisclosed need to reinforce his self esteem at the expense of others. .

Like I said about we don't care if your conservative. Every system, mechanical, economic or political needs some form of restraint ,from the left or right, or the reaction will become uncontrolled with catastrophic consequences.

Politically, conservatives provide that function. We need them, they need us. Without the back and forth, no progress will be made.

In regard to the boycott subject, Its tiresome and we aren't playing anymore.

You make a compelling argument.

I'm on the fence about this boycott. On the one hand It's pretty obvious that Ken will never concede any ground on any matter...ever. And therefore engaging him in debate in the first place is fairly pointless(although sometimes fun). On the other hand does it create more traffic to TYT? having people who post idiotic controversial comments probably does create more traffic.....

Nobody might be able to convince Ken, but maybe that shouldn't be the aim. He posts something, somebody does some research and posts "proof" of the truth and open minded people might have learned something.

He is like the (unaware) advocatus diaboli that makes us aware of the right-wing talking points and how to debunk them.

And sometimes it is entertaining to argue with him, even though he will never agree on something. Still, behaviour like that is not limited to the conservatrolls on this site. There are very few instances where people here really consider the arguments of the others and try to reach a synthesis. Mostly it is about showing that your position is true.
