Look, I don’t like to see anyone getting punched in the mouth. Call me a pacifist. But when you resist arrest you have to take the consequences that those actions bring. But for the fact that she resisted arrest, she brought his actions on herself. I try to have as much respect for police as possible and I teach that to my young sons so that they don't get punched in the mouth or whatever. I may not agree with the arrest but resisting only brings you more drama. The time to argue is in court, not on the street. Who am I to criticize this officer in that specific time and situation? Punching, hog tying, manhandling, tazing, etc. should be what is expected when you try to resist arrest from any police officer. Unfortunately, she messed with the wrong police officer...he obviously went to the Mike Singletary Academy of Law Enforcement. That is the chance you take when you resist arrest.  I vote not excessive.

Would we even be having this conversation? What if it had been a female officer? The idea that anyone would think a person should get away with physically attacking a police officer, regardless gender, is insane. This sexist crap has got to end.

perfect analogy! If it was a girl.. cenk would have no issue. If the girl that got punched was a guy, same deal. Tough shit. The girl deserved it.

I live in a place (the valley) where police are infamous for giving tickets to jaywalkers.
I think that it's bullshit. Warn them, then move along.

That being said, we have seen people get tazed for much less. In fact, I would like to see more use of the hands and arms by police (especially when someone who is easily overpowered is involved) and less use of an electric device that could cause someone to have a fatal heart attack.

This girl is a f--ng moron. It must be said. She didn't just disrespect the officer prior to the punch. She repeatedly resisted arrest afterward. She should face penalties, not him.

This is one of the very few times when I will defend police. I have been in similar situations for absolutely nothing during which if I had physically resisted an officer his partner would have fired a pistol at me. This girl was very lucky.
