I think Cenk comes off as a "liberal loon" as O'Reilley would say. Now maybe that's because there's no one else going on a rant from the liberal side of the spectrum. I know social security is an emotional topic, but Cenk seemed like a bit of a loose cannon, and I thought some of the blame he laid at the feet of this former senator was only partly true. On TYT, Cenk often clarifies his position on the issue after a debate like this, and I understand he can't necessarily do that when he's on TV due to time constraints.
I'm not opposed to all Cenk rants. When Cenk lost it on the Iraq war stats, or Debbie Schlussel, I was in favor.
Another point, is that Repubs when they get a question they don't like, go right to their talking points. Ignore the question--> go to talking point. It's a bit robotic, but hey it's worked for them in the past. No matter how many times the interviewer asks the question, they often go back to their talking points. What can a host do? I'm not really sure. It's hard to combat things people don't say, when they put it in code. I wish Cenk could do more like the first hour of TYT on the TV. He goes into the issues and uses clips etc to support his points. In fact he should get The Morning Joe so he can have time to air the entire show... I believe that is a three hour show.
"demonstrating his contempt for America" (or something like that) Cenk could have just told him to fuck off and it would have been cool with me. It's at the "why do you hate America?" point that you show you're just not interested in having a serious discussion.
As they say, respect is earned, and this guy didn't earn it. At least not in this back and forth.
And you're right about the Morning Joe slot. TYT would fit in perfectly there, but I'm sure the staff would hate it because it would almost be a return to the much-loathed, old school 3AM slot they had on Air America.

It's high time someone took a pair of pliers and a blowtorch to one of these smirking assholes. When some prick stands there and tells us in effect - yeah sure, you paid for social security but the money is spent, tough shit, you've got to work a few more years and take a cut in benefits so that the wealthy can buy bigger yachts - it's time to get out the machete and go to work.
Don't forget, these same people helped the banks fuck over everyone for years with ridiculous predatory loan and fee practices, passed legislation to make it harder for the sheep to escape the wolves, and then bailed the wolves out when they collapsed the whole system. No sir, some people need a serious ass chewing. America needs a watchdog to start doing some serious barking.
