Public union collective bargaining

So I was watching the february 4th show and was watching the interview at the end. I enjoyed the interview as it seemed an actual coming together of ideas than just a clash. But what amused me was how the interviewee kept mentioning that tax payers don't have a seat at the table... So catch me if I'm wrong here but last time I checked these government workers don't somehow have tax exempt status. And I know that they have less incentive to care about increased taxes then the average taxpayer if it goes to up their wages but if their effect on tax contribution is so small wouldn't it mean their ability to influence elections is just as small? Just a little contradiction I noticed there
