We've Out-Done 9/11

Google Technorati del.icio.us digg reddit
This week the US's military fatalities in Iraq has surpassed the number of people killed in the September 11th attacks.

September 11th's combined fatalities (not including the hijackers) totalled 2,973 people.  This week American military fatalities in Iraq officially surpassed that number, reaching 2,980.

This must be what they mean when they say, "You can't make an omelette without committing extensive chicken genocide."  The difference is that, even after all this death, we've yet to be presented with an edible breakfast item.

I read this and I thought the sock puppet might have finally grown his own brain!

Then I realized he was simply cutting and pasting ideas from other people.

But let's be serious for just one moment. If you will start behaving in a more civil manner, we will give you wide latitude on the content of your commentary.

I will try as hard as I can to avoid giving you the normal KenTX treatment.

I'd have cited the source, but other than that there's nothing wrong with cutting and pasting something you think is worth passing along.  It's not like any of us is above doing so.

At any rate, I'm encouraged by everyone's apparent effort to be civil.  Today the TYT forum.  Tomorrow the world.

You’re making it impossible for us to go you a break. Are you such a fool that you don’t even know what sources you’re plagiarizing? Take a look:

You:

The local looser? You are the one that is making an ass out of himself over nothing. Sorry kenny boy but Im just not going to get all upset. Your point is idiotic all that frenzy of trying to find something you could use. Its pathetic and funny. Busy yourself trying to refute the actual content of the post kenny boy.

So you are saying... that hubble doesn't post mile long posts with tons of pasting including graphs...pictures that at times take up almost an entire page? Right kenny boy?

I wouldn't mind discussing differences on topics from the days YTY show.. for example disagreements with one of their points of view. But "debating" a simple minded troll I mean troglodyte ain't my bag baby..

You typed that .. we are going to have some fun before...and ended up "taking your leave" and changing your nic.. remember kenny boy?

Do you really want me to make you cry again?

BTW.. I guess I'm not from Oregon and I guess you don't know a  fucking thing about Houston or Atlanta..

Who am I now kenny baby?

"Sorry kenny boy but Im just not going to get all upset."

As a matter of fact, it looks like you just got mighty upset indeed. Why, look at your number of posts. My, my, you are all in a-twitter.

And you're shrieking and hand-wringing like an angry little tinker bell. You're kinda funny looking when you act like a little girl!

Was your father embarrassed when you behaved like this? I'll bet he was. Who would want a son like this?

And your Mother! Oh-my-gosh! Was she proud of you for trying to act more feminine than her? Did she push your Dad around? Is that why you turned out the way you did?

Talk about being ostracized by your schoolmates, and not being chosen for the team. It must have been really tough?

I'm sure there were a few older men who helped you cope with being different. They understood you in a special way, didn't they? Yeah, they liked you!

And now you're trying to get even with the way the world treated you by acting out in an internet forum. Well, I hope it's cathartic and therapeutic.

But remember one thing sweetie pie. We just learned your weakness. You can't handle attack. You can't take a punch. You will not be able to sustain onslaught from all of the members in this forum. You're weak.

We are going to team up on you and grind you down, just like they used to treat you back in junior high.

the number of posts directly corresponds to the amount of time I was here watching the year end round up. Don't flatter yourself by thinking anything you type affects me.

Shrieking all atwitter?  Kenny boy you have a pretty active imagination.

Point of fact kenny boy. You are in the 12%.. lunatic fringe.. Hard core Jim Jones material , your opinions to me are meaningless at best.

Like I said kenny boy.. You dont know anything about Atlanta... Or Houston... I do... now who lives where again?

You cant even be honest about where you live LOL...

Now run along and get some sleep.. You seem to be on here 24/7... hopefully that's what is impairing your mental acuity I would hate to think this is the way you really are.

Ken, I don't know why you continue to refuse to believe me. I have NEVER posted at the YT forum under ANY alias. I'm the same Tim Coney I've always been and - somewhat regretfully - will always be. I have no sock puppets, alternate nics, attack personalities, or variations of my theme.

I've been "quiet" lately, waiting for the election rush to die down, some topics that I haven't rehashed with the same ol' same ol' for awhile, and have been in a compulsory movie watching phase.

To any poster who gives a damn:

I find discussing possible Presidential nominees at this stage pointless, I am too amazed for words that ANYBODY is going along with "surge" talk, incredulous at the lack of understanding of some of the most basic events happening outside America, and, frankly, tired of seeing all this space wasted with the back and forth "I know you are but what am I" which seems to invade EVERY thread.

I understand flaming can be fun, and have been known to pull out the hair spray can and lighter a time or two myself, but it's one of those "bounds of reason" things. The balance of crap to thoughtful discourse is in the same range as Bush's approval ratings.

...but that's just my opinion. Rave on.

I am no where close to figuring out if anybody is posting with more than one alias. I don't even know if that matters. But if anybody wants to be an informant, please feel free.

I often get annoyed by how many threads deteriorate into a cat fight rather than staying on the substance. The idea of these blogging sites is that the community can self regulate through use of the recommended posts feature and by people not commenting on stupid, name calling, petty posts.  Ignore him and he'll go away.  Kids have a hard time learning that, and apparently so do adults.  The major reason this self regulation and quality control isn't happening I think is that we haven't reached critical mass (not enough people).  As an offshoot of that, we are still small enough that many of you kind of "know" each other so you are perfectly willing to make, receive and respond to ad hominem attacks.

Having said that, I am a little confused by who everybody is. I would love it if somebody could post a breakdown of who the major posters are, by nickname of course, and whether they are on the Republican side or the other side (liberal, progressive, Democratic, Young Turks side whatever you call it).  I would also like to know if a poster does more substance, more jive talking, or both.  Would somebody care to take that project on.

Finally, I think the comparison of the number of people who died on 9/11/2001 to the number of US soldiers killed in Iraq is pointless and meaningless, apples and oranges.

The just ignore thing doesn't work. Cuz no one wants to ignore . They like to argue. Then claim that everyone else is a flamer or a sock puppet or anything else that suits thier argument at that moment. "we this" and "we that" as if they have the moral high ground because they say they are a "we"

I don't care why chuz whatever was banned. I don't care where so and so lives. I don't think its anyone's fucking business where I live . If I wanted to share personal info with anyone I would go to a dating sight.

The only one that has a right to make comments about others being a "flamer" are Medford Tim   and MrFred. EVERYONE else jumps right in there with thier pudgy little fingers typing away and cry foul when they don't like a response. Its tedious.  Of course the driving force behind it all is the trolls usually. Oh look I can stir shit here or I can pretend Im this. It only works when others buy into it. Oh this troll is so nice.. That troll is only telling ppl to die of aids because hes really a nice guy. That troll says that Dems are baby rapers because they have a right to thier opinion. Its all horse shit.

I'm all for discussing the issues that matter.. and who cut and paste what or who is whom or what diseases they have just isn't pertinent. But as I said. I will play when asked .

Well you have to include the casualties that the terrorists inflicted in both Afganistan and Iraq into the equation. We can't just think about the terrorists attacks on our soil.

by acroso on 12/29/2006 02:41:58 AM EST

...that in Afghanistan and Iraq, a huge majority of the population sees US as "terrorists," right?

I know this is an incredibly painful exercise for you because it requires some imagination and empathy (look it up if you need to), but try...just TRY to look at it from an Iraqi or Afghan citizen POV.

Walk out your front door and imagine your neighborhood in utter ruin (or, take a trip to New Orleans for a good visual), gun battles and rocket fire coming from various parts of your city, strangers who don't speak your language carrying automatic weapons and suspicion in their eyes. There was a family over on the next block - these invaders raped the 14 year old girl, then killed her and the rest of her family - 7 in all. Your neighbor is picked up and taken to jail for months, and when he returns, he shows you the scars from the treatment he received before he was finally let go because there were no charges.

How many World Trade Centers are THEY going to have to endure?

MedfordTim: ...just TRY to look at it from an Iraqi or Afghan citizen POV.

Since you know so much about what average Iraqis and Afghans think, Tim, do teenaged girls in Kabul long for the return of the Taleban, so they can be kicked out of school and imprisoned in burkhas? Are the insurgents brave freedom fighters or just gangsters?

The coach of Iraq's tennis team and two players were shot dead in Baghdad on Thursday, said Iraqi Olympic officials.

Coach Hussein Ahmed Rashid and players Nasser Ali Hatem and Wissam Adel Auda were killed in the al-Saidiya district of the capital.

Witnesses said the three were dressed in shorts and were killed days after militants issued a warning forbidding the wearing of shorts.

If you wear short pants, the American "terrorists" win. Yeah, those courageous insurgents are fighting to liberate Iraq from evil American athletic apparel.

Imagine walking out your front door and seeing men wearing tennis shorts. How many bare legs will THEY have to endure?

"Since you know so much about what average Iraqis and Afghans think, Tim,..."

Going by their polls, Twba. When more than 60% say it's fine to target Americans and 80% want us OUT within a year (Iraq figures) it does give me a little insight as to their thoughts.

I'm glad you confined your comments about Afghani women to Kabul, since it is virtually the only place in Afghanistan where these "freedoms" have been restored. Along with not being able to go out at night for fear of being raped.

You guys might want to do a little more research on our "success" in Afghanistan. It ain't all Apple pie and Ice Cream. You will discover that some Afghan women long for the days under the Taleban, because they were safer. And the way it's been going over the last year or so, it looks like they might get their wish.

In response to your question, I'd say "gangsters" - in the old-fashioned sense of the word - criminals. And should be treated as such.

By Iraqis.

“You DO realize that in Afghanistan and Iraq, a huge majority of the population sees US as "terrorists," right?”

Wrong. In Iraq, even the insurgents are starting to get sick of al Qaeda terrorists, and they are joining forces with Americans.

This is the model we have used with some success in Afghanistan.

You know I've been saying for a long time now that Iraqis don't have any use for al Qaeda types, thank you for finally admitting (in your own special way) that al Qarda in Iraq is irrelevent. Always have been.

Doesn't take a thing away from my point that the occupying forces of a country which invaded theirs are seen as "terrorists" in their own right by the invaded and occupied.

Notice I put quote marks around "terrorists." That's because some people - I know it's hard to imagine! - think that everyone and anyone fighting American troops is a "terrorist," and I thought the term might make the point a little clearer that just because someone somewhere CALLS someone a "terrorist," it ain't necessarily so.

"Success?" Dude, we may have a touchdown on the scoreboard, but we're still in the first half - a looooong way to go before the end of the game.

by madgardener on 12/29/2006 06:12:51 AM EST

We have now lost more troops than we have 9-11 victims. To me this is something of a contrived milestone.

If the administration starts a  war based on the willful deception of the American public, intelligence fixed around policy, misapprehensions, conducts events on the ground with a general incomptence such that any of these lead to a loss of even one American or Iraqi life then the administration has to be held accountable.

The milestones needed are those that should be contained in timeline that establishes the arrest and incarceration for crimes of treason aganst the nation for the following:  Bush,  Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Powell,  Hadley, Tenet, Gonzales, Feith, Perle, Ledeen, and Wolfowitiz. They should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law with maximum penalties imposed and no possibility for pardon.

Holding these criminals accountable is the only way to avenge the the wrongful deaths of the 3000 soldiers, injuries to some 20,000 soldiers in Iraq and the many thousands of Iraqi deaths resulting from a war based on fraud and deception.
