September 12, 2006 (Los Angeles) -- Beginning September 18, 2006, radio powerhouse "The Young Turks" will bring a new sound and energy to the progressive airwaves as Air America Radio Network's new morning drive-time program.
Hosts Cenk Uygur, Ben Mankiewicz and Jill Pike will move their popular politically based talk show to broadcast on the nationally syndicated Air America Radio Network and XM Satellite Radio. Recognized as Sirius Satellite Radio's first original programming and the first live video web TV show. "The Young Turks" will air live on radios across the country and on video streamed by Limelight Networks at www.theyoungturks.com weekdays from 6 a.m. - 9 a.m. ET.
"The Young Turks" attracts audiences young and old with the hosts' irreverent opinions and discussions of a variety of topics including politics, sex, pop culture and sports. Integrating top guests within their fields with calls from listeners around the world, nothing is off limits in the fast-paced three hour program.
"The Turks have been on our radar for a while now," says Air America Radio Executive Jon Sinton. "We're big fans and we're thrilled to have them aboard. We love their freewheeling nature. One minute it's policy with an edge, and the next it's Mel Brooks and you're trying not to drive off the road you're laughing so hard. It's a really entertaining show with a discernable point of view. Smart and funny. I think the audience that hasn't heard them yet will be instant fans."
"The Young Turks" launched in 2002 on Sirius Satellite Radio and expanded to the Internet in 2005 as the first exclusive live streaming video show. "The Young Turks" include hosts Cenk Uygur (as seen on "The Huffington Post"), Ben Mankiewicz (weekend host of Turner Classic Movies) and Jill Pike; political correspondent and frequent guest host Michael Shure; executive producer David Koller; show producer Jayar Jackson; director Jesus Godoy; and show manager Michael Kromnick. "The Young Turks" attract such powerhouse guests as Senator John Kerry, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, conservative pundit Mary Matalin, NBC's Brian Williams, ABC's Sam Donaldson, actor Matt Dillon, actor Richard Dreyfus, Ralph Nader, Pat Buchanan, General Wesley Clark, porn star Mary Carey, Governor Howard Dean, writer/director/actor Mel Brooks, actor Bob Saget, and numerous others.
