Random thoughts from the state of the union speech

In an attempt to stimulate some conversation about US politics as opposed to TYT forum politics, here are some random thoughts on last night's speech

Did anyone watch the ABC feed?  They showed John McCain about half way through the speech and it sure looked to me like he was having a nice little nap.

Did anyone notice the look on Chaney's face when Bush was talking about reducing our gasoline consumption by 20%?

Although i was glad to hear him talk about energy i'm not sure about his plans.  Expanding the strategic reserve is a good idea (currently only covers about 30 days of supply).  Unfortunatly i think his plan is focused too much on replacing oil with corn ethanol and not enough on pushing fuel efficiency of cars and suv's.  Some potential positives are that maybe we can totally eliminate farm subsidies by inflating demand for corn and the development of cellulose ethanol might actually have some long term potential.

There may be some potential for his health insurance tax breaks, but I don't know if the democrats will pass it.  I think it definitely levels the playing field for small businesses and the self-employed, but i doubt it will do much of anything to help the working poor who are the majority of the uninsured.

I was supprised there was not more talk geared at deamonizing and provoking Iran

Dikembe Mutombo is tall!
