If you thought Democrats were going to get us out of Iraq.  WRONG!

The DLC, hence Hillary, is for a long-term presence in Iraq.  The DLC wants to continue the NeoCon agenda of permanent bases in Iraq.  That cannot be maintained without the current TROOP LEVELS.  That will keep the Bush/Cheney "Stay the Course" nonsense indefinitely.

I can see what Hillary is going to do in 2009.  She's going to have a phased withdrawal down to, say 50,000 troops.  Inevitably, Iraq will go to hell, as the militias who have been waiting for US forces to leave will start in. Then the Pubs will force Hillary to CANCEL the withdrawal.  Hillary will throw her hands up in the air and say, I tried, but we just CAN'T cut the number of troops."

Success and Failure in Iraq are now measured in Death Up or Down.  Long-term political progress in Iraq is impossible, so it is now IRRELEVANT.  No one will pop the political blister and suffer the stigma of LOSING the war.  So we are in Iraq forever.  Just get used to it.

No, I disagree.  It's a boat anchor around the neck of everyone.  Sooner or later the public is going to get fed up enough to REALLY climb some ass.  The cost of this thing is too high and the gain too small.

A lot will depend on what the price of oil does in the next 2 years.  That is the heart of why we went in and that is the critical factor now.  I don't know if our adventures there will give us any edge in the competition for oil but I suspect not at this point.  Wouldn't we have seen an advantage by now?

Only 30 percent of the people believe in it.  It can't last much longer with those kinds of numbers.

Democrats can end the war today. They don't need a single Republican vote. All they have to do is block all legislation and freeze all action in Washington until George Bush agrees to a phased withdrawal with timetables from Iraq and Afghanistan.

If bfaul is correct, and I have no reason to doubt him, the American people are overwhelmingly in favor of leaving Iraq. I think he said that something like 99.9% of all Americans want to bring the troops home tomorrow.

If this is true, there should be no political penalty for doing the right thing. We've had enough of the bloodshed in Afghanistan and Iraq.

If Democrats fail us again, then all good Americans should vote for a third party, progressive candidate in 2008 so we can send a message to the DNC.

This isn't true.  They don't have enough of a majority in the senate to accomplish this.

They SHOULD be able to deny funding to it, but there are too many of them that are pussies of epic proportions.  If it were me I'd never vote another fucking nickel for Iraq. Not one.

The criticism of the Clintons has always been that they play with their finger to the winds politically.  That made them play HALVSIES with the  Republicans.  I understood that and accepted that in the ‘90s when the country was clearly fiscally Conservative and Bill HAD to do that to keep us from the ABYSS Dubya eventually lead us into.

But it seems clear also that Hillary is willing to play halvsies with the NeoCons, people practically NO ONE in the country agrees with.  And for WHAT???  Mayhaps, she actually BELIEVES in the bullcrap they spew.

And it’s not just about the stupid War.  SOMEONE needs to reverse the DAMAGE that Dubya has done to our DEMOCRACY:

•  Putting complete INCOMPETENTS in EVERY post in Government that Conservatives don’t like, just to show how “gubmint” can’t work.  While you still PAY FOR IT.

•   A wild, Imperialistic foreign policy that dictates that we try to kick everyone in the world’s ass and FORCE them to our will, instead of Diplomacy.  SEVENTY-FIVE YEARS of  Wilsonian Leadership, the US as the beacon of Freedom, that defeated the NAZIS and the SOVIETS, chucked down the tubes.

•  Complete ABOLITION of the Rule of LAW:  “Signing statements” that basically say.  “OK, Congress, you passed that Law, but I don’t have to follow it.”  The Justice Dept. used as a tool for POLITICAL gains.  The “Unitary Executive.”  (Which is one SUPREME COURT JUSTICE away from becoming the Law of the Land for the foreseeable future.  Whither “Strict Constructionalism”???   Read the FEDERALIST PAPERS again.  The Unitary Executive is EXACTLY what the Founding Fathers FEARED MOST!)

•  Torture?  Renditioning?  Wiretapping with no oversight?

•  No-bid bullcrap PRIVATISATION of government functions, where corporations can suck down as many TAX DOLLARS as they CHOOSE, again with no oversight, just because the suck up to the political powers that be.  And our NATIONAL SECURITY being taken away from the US Armed Forces, prolly the greatest MERITOCRACY in HISTORY, and handed of to MERCENARY A*HOLES like BLACKWATER.

•  The KEYS to our ECONOMY handed over to OPPRESSIVE, STATIST REGIMES like CHINA, SAUDI ARABIA and the UAE.

And I think Hillary BUYS into that crap.  The NeoCon agenda will DESTROY AMERICA.

What you don't realise is that if the NeoCons win in '08 (or a NeoCon SYMP, like Hillary) Democracy is fucking DONE in America!  Finished!  Kaput!

It doesn't MATTER what the public feels. With BOTH parties buying into NeoCon Bullshit, there's not going to BE any CHOICE.

It's just "COKE vs. PEPSI" Democracy.  The two parties control EVERYTHING.  And if they both stand for CORPORATOCRACY, and shoot down the Rule of Law, THAT'S IT.  MONEY and POWER rule America.  Your voice doesn't COUNT for SHIT.  Any candidate that stands up to that power will be TRASHED by the MEDIA, labelled as EXTREMIST.
