Another sign that Iraq is trying to throw off the US yoke?

This sure didn't seem to get much notice by the press, but the Iraqis are making a move toward sovereignty and trying to call the shots.

I guess I missed this in the news, or did I?  How is it that important developments like this get glossed over while Ellen Degeneres' weepy breakdown over a dog gets days of coverage?

The editorial titled "Endgame for Iraqi Oil?" speculates about the result of an Iraqi announcement that they will renew the United Nations Security Council mandate for a mulltinational force in Iraq one final time, to expire at the end of next year.   I suppose this can be seen as a "normalization" of relations between the US and Iraq, taken optimistically.  It can also be seen as them waving bye-bye to American occupation, since it provides the only legal basis for our remaining there.

It's definitely a relevant read if you're interested in Iraq.

Bush and Co. have screwed this thing up so bad that we will be feeling the repercussions for years. I believe FUBAR is the correct term.
