Joe put a .357 magnum in his mouth...

What Cenk fails to consider concerning suicide

The problem for Joe, and almost everyone else who has ever committed suicide, is that he has already been to a strip club, maxed out his credit card, done drugs, bought a sports car, taken trips to Tahiti (or, whatever the equivalent would be for someone of more moderate financial means).  There's no need, or desire, for ONE MORE splurge.  They have come to a point where life lacks any more meaning or interest for them, or they wouldn't be considering ending it.

The one thing I would encourage someone in that condition to do is to go see a therapist.  If they are going to end their life anyway, an extra week or two isn't going to hurt.  The doctor will prescribe drugs that are unlike all of the others they have experimented with.  There is a very good chance that they will see life somewhat differently (not totally) and have a desire to carry on.

The thing to remember is that we are all on short-time here.  We're all going to end up in the same place and it really isn't all that far down the road for anyone.  Modern medicine has several solutions to the problem of not being able to see WHY you might as well stay in the one life you will ever have and do the best you can with it, even if at times it feels like it's useless.

I know.  I've been there.  Medications work and, at least with the ones I take, there is almost no side-effects.  So why am I still in your world?  Is it meaningless?  Maybe.  Or maybe I'm here to be able to tell you to go see a therapist.  If even one person takes this advice (not necessarily here, but anywhere that I give it while still alive), maybe THAT was reason enough for me to stay.
