Afghanistan Falling Back Into Hands of Taliban and al Queda

Google Technorati del.icio.us digg reddit
Consider the current state of US operations in Aganistan:
  • Taliban now has a permanent presence in 54% of Afghanistan
  • Frontline getting closer to Kabul.
  • Aid not going to those who need it most
  • Taliban may control capital as soon as 2008

Despite Bushes rhetoric , the Taliban and al Queda, once driven out by our invasion in 2001, now control "vast swaths of unchallenged territory, including rural areas, some district centers, and important road arteries" the Senlis Council, stated in a report released yesterday.

"It is a sad indictment of the current state of Afghanistan that the question now appears to be not if the Taliban will return to Kabul, but when ... and in what form. The oft-stated aim of reaching the city in 2008 appears more viable than ever and it is incumbent upon the international community to implement a new strategic paradigm before time runs out."

Its clear that Bush and his Iraq policy is conceding Afghanistan to al Queda and the Taliban through indifference and incompetence. While we pour billions into Iraq , Bush and the Republicans are ignoring the bad news from the main battle front in the War on Terror. We in essence are handing over the country that once housed al Queda and provided a stronghold from which the 9-11 attack was executed. With Pakistan in turmoil, Afghanistan would provide again an ideal adjunct base of operations against Musharraf and obtaining Pakistan's nuclear weapons.

Where is the conservative outrage at this? I guess there are insufficient oil reserves in Afganistan to "fuel" outrage.

If our performance in the Middle East is any indication (and I hope it isn't), we are sending this message to the world: "Please attack the US.  We cannot fight back.  We don't know what the Christ we are doing."  It's like we are.......what's the word I'm trying to think of.......enstrengthening the enemy?  No, that's not it.  Reboldifying the enemy?  Damn, it's on the tip of my tongue....

Dupliforcitrating the enemy?

Opium production is at an all time high. Plenty of money to keep the Taliban going.

"conservative outrage"

I'm surprised at you.  You should know that this is reserved exclusively for Democratic foul-ups.  Don't make Ken come here and straighten you out.

Your continous exposure of Republican failures is an embarassing distraction that he can and will not tolerate.

The Democrats want to cut the military's funding too so that won't help.

I thought you supported Reid and SanFranNan's effort to cut the funding to the troops?

There is plenty of outrage. Democrats in Congress are refusing to fund the operations of troops fighting al Qaeda in Afghanistan. They are trying to tie appropriations to a withdrawal timetable.

Soon, the American public will be forced to run a Jerry Lewis style telethon to collect funds to buy food and ammunition for the troops.

Wait a minute! This is a great idea! I just thought it up. Imagine the resulting dam age to the Dumbasscrats! I think we can run with this.

See ya later. I gotta go call Karl and Rush!

considering approval for the war is at less than 30%% its highly doubtful any repugnicant is going tot be running anywhere except home after they are voted out.

...recalling similar warnings from Gates earlier this year. Defense officials complained in February about drastic consequences if a funding bill was not passed then; the bleak scenarios did not come about, even though the bill was not passed until May. "We have determined that both peacetime and war operations can be sustained, with no impact to troop readiness, until at least March 2008," said Rep. John P. Murtha (D-Pa.), who heads the House Defense Appropriations subcommittee.

The funding squable is in reference to an Iraq timetable...not Afganistan. You know that but you never let a good story get in the way of the facts.

Bush blunders and the minless rubber stamp by the  droolers in the Retardican controlled Congress's 9until 20060 has allowed the enemy to regain the lost territory to launch more attacks against the US.

Good thinking. Iraq Iraq Iraq...but the real reason is that its easier to rape the US taxpayer with non-bid contracts and to subsidise oil grabs for big oil contributors in Iraq.

You call Rush and Karl...you can reach them at Jenny Craig
