Romney is the best one. Go Mitt!

by acroso on 11/28/2007 08:55:09 PM EST

Despite Cenk's accurate description of Romney today as oil/sludge that reflects the views of Republicans, it's was great seeing him school Rudy in the beginning...

His answer on how to reduce black on black violence in the inner cities was improving "values" and (paraphrase) 'getting more mom's and dad's'.

At least that was the first part of his response, and his key to the issue.

If anyone can hear that and still vote for the guy...

and would only support her begrudingly if she's the nominee, because the republican alternative is so awful.

At any rate, I don't know specifically know what she'd do, but I can assure you the primary part of her answer wouldn't be about increasing "values".

It's a complicated issue, and if I had to give a more satisfying but still very generic answer it would be "improve the socioeconomic conditions that create such high rates of violence".

Is that vague? Yes.  Is it far more relevant and correct than any nonsense about "values"?  Yes.

In his defense, he did vaguely mention something about education as well, but it'd be nice if he gave the tiniest bit of detail as to what exactly he meant by that.

ihavenobias plan: "improve the socioeconomic conditions that create such high rates of violence".

KenTX plan: Federal entitlements only paid to families with both a mother and father.

In other words, if you don't have a husband, you better go find one.

Perhaps people who live outside the South can pretend that Romney being a MORMON isn't going to really matter......BUT I can assure you as someone who was born, raised, and live in the South, Southern, conservative, fundamental religious people are not going to vote for him, and without those folks showing up at the polls the Republicans will win.

A true picture of how the nation is divided looks like this purple states

Notice all those blue pockets in the South? Those folks will still come out and the red ones will stay at home or vote third party Libertarian in protest.

This is a region were Mormons are considered non-Christian and the fundamental preachers are shouting it from the pulpit every day. I grew up Catholic in Alabama and was slightly more acceptable to many people than Mormons, because at least Catholics believed many of the same things.

Want to know what the fundamental folks are told about Mormons read this, Romney has as much chance of carrying the South as Jesse Jackson has of being appointed the Imperial Wizard of the KKK.

Yep it'll it hurt him some. Don't care, I agree with his issues.

Being black will hurt Obama too. He can still win tho.

It's not about the issues, it's about electability. Fair or not a Mormon is not going to capture the "value" voters of the South.

This is the party that continuously screams about this being a "Christian" nation founded on "Judeo-Christian principles", and they are proposing to nominate a man who a good portion of core Southern Republican voters view as equal to a Satanist.

Now I'm sure Ken can provide a specific scenario where the Republicans can win the White House without winning the South, but history tells a different tale.

By the way which issues do you agree with?

The Romney who's pro-choice or the Romney who's anti-choice?

The Romney who's pro gay rights or the Romney who's anti-gay rights?

The Romney who's pro-stem cell research or the Romney who's anti-stem cell research?

The Romney who's pro-gun control or the Romney who's anti-gun control?

Is there an issue that this guy hasn't had and epiphany and changed his mind?

Well I can certainly understand how you could agree with him on the issues, because depending on which Romney you talk to I think we can all agree with him.

Can you say flip-flop? I knew you could!

Where everything is reversed, but here in the reality based world Mitt has flopped on every "values voter" issue there is.

Mitt would sell his son's to the terrorist if he thought he could pick up a few votes, he has no ethics and no moral commitment to any issue, he just cares about saying the right thing to get the Rethuglican Sheeple to pull the lever for him.

Hubble, I want to thank you for your heartfelt concern about the GOP nominating process. I know you just want to help us to nominate the best candidate to beat the Democrats next November.

The problem is that your logic is slightly askew. Not the part about bias against Catholics and Mormons in the South. As a southerner with Catholics in my family, I am quite familiar with these issues. But there is much less prejudice today than in the old days.

So let’s test your assertion.

Did southerners vote for a Catholic in 1928? Yep.

Did southerners vote for a Catholic in 1960? Yep.

Here’s the bottom line. If Mitt Romney beats other candidates like Mike Huckabee in southern states during the GOP primaries, he has nothing to worry about when he faces Hillary Clinton in the general election.

If I were you, I would concentrate on the Democrats’ nominating process. Now there is something you should start worrying about.

Slightly different times, and it was only because of that good ole Texas Boy LBJ that the Dems could pull it off, but even then Mississippi went independent as did half of Alabama.

Texas voted for JFK and Johnson by a margin of 50.52% to 48.52%.

If you really believe that Southern Fundamentalist view Catholics and Mormons the same way perhaps you need to get out of your gated community more often and socialize with REAL Southerners.

Personally I would hope that my fellow Southerners would move beyond the silly prejudices and Bible thumping hate mongering for other denominations, but I don't see it happening in the rural areas that the Rethugs need to carry the South, and if Ken thinks it's all changed he is living in a fantasy land.

What does the bastion of Christian Republicanism have to say about Mitt?

A cult is any group that has a form of godliness, but does not recognize Jesus Christ as the unique son of God."....."One test of a cult is that it often does not strictly teach that Jesus is the only begotten Son of God who Himself is God manifested in the flesh."......"Chr istian-oriented cults include the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormons), the Worldwide Church of God, Christian Science, Unity, Unitarianism, The Way International, Rosicrucian Society of America, Bahai, Hare Krishna, Scientology, the Unification Church, and the Jehovah's Witnesses."
--CBN pamphlet entitled "Cults," dated 1992

So Pat doesnt' believe Mormons are REAL Christians. How does he feel about people like Mitt holding office and leading this nation?

"Individual Christians are the only ones really---and Jewish people, those who trust God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob--are the only ones that are qualified to have the reign, because hopefully, they will be governed by God and submit to Him."
--Defending his stance that only Christians and Jews are fit to hold public office, The 700 Club, January 11, 1985

Bat shit crazy Pat is not a fanatical as most of the people in the small pulpits throughout the South who hold the same views. So you go on believing that Southerner Fundamental Christian are going to overlook the Anti-Christ leading our "Christian" nation.

Hubble, the more you post on this subject, the more you contradict yourself. Pat Robertson endorsed the Catholic, not the Southern Baptist preacher.

You make frequent reference to the high percentage of evangelicals comprising the GOP. If they nominate a Catholic or a Mormon, then your theory is all wet.

If born-again, Jesus-lovin, fundamentalist, evangelical, right-wing Republicans nominate a Mormon or a Catholic, then you have no argument. It means the Solid South will remain Solid GOP in 2008.

What you need to worry about is how well Rudy might run better than Hillary in NH, NJ, CT, RI, PA. The 2008 battleground states will be traditional blue states.

You keep on believing.

The people who vote in the primary are the Republicans who will vote in the General Election. Those that won't vote for Mitt in the primary based on his being an Ant-Christ aren't going to vote for him in the General. See were the problem might be yet?

Perhaps in your rich Republican arrogance you believe the Religious sheeple will keep marching lockstep with you, but even sheeple sometimes stray off ranch, and this time among true fundamendalist it will be a stampede.

Ken you just keep on cruising through your gated community believing the things you believe.

Yes there is no perfect candidate on the R side right now. Huck-Giuliani-McCain are totally unacceptable. That leaves Thompson who would probably be the best fit but isn't much of a campaigner so far. Mitt is perfect other than his religion, but I think R's can get over that.

Rudy, Rudy, Rudy I'm literally quivering in my boots at the very thought of Rudy, Rudy, Rudy.

Let's see Rudy, a man with family mob ties, a man who paraded his mistress around New York proudly while still married and mayor, Rudy a anti-Gun (Yeah, Yeah 9-11 changed everything), pro gay marriage (Wait did 9-11 change everything?), pro choice (that's right 9-11 changed everything) cross-dresser.

Rudy, Rudy, Rudy a man that a new scandal comes out weekly.

I love the new one about how New York paid for him to see his mistress.

How about the questionable business dealings, and how could we forget his good friend Bernie Kerik, his nominee for head of Home Land Security now under indictment.

Yep, Rudy keeps getting stronger and stronger. I can see how the "Value Voters" are going to really support him.

Conventional wisdom says that Hillary will win the Democrat Party nomination. I don't believe it. Democrats don't like her, and the rest of the country hates her.

With little more than 30 days until the primary voting starts, I still say your nominee will be Al Gore.

But if you people are really stupid enough to nominate Hillary, then we have a good chance of extending our record to 8-3. Imagine the state of Democrat mental health if that happens again.

Huck is dead outside of Iowa and he is as bad as Giuliani is anyway.

It's down to Giuliani or Romney and Romney is lightyears better than Giuliani. Giuliani is some sort of left wing plant in the Republican primary. Here's a video of him supporting Ted Kennedy amnesty. He even uses Democrat language and talking points.
