Another logical absurdity in Republican policies

Conservatives give one rationale for no gun control and the opposite for wire tapping.

In the gun control debate, one of the main points given by the conservatives is why punish everyone for the problems of a few? The criminals will get the guns anyway so why make all those law that punish the good honest citizens?
Heard this line of reasoning? Of course you have.
Then there is warrentless wiretapping and surveillance. Shouldn't that same reasoning be applied here? That is, why wiretap everyone for the crimes of a few? Isn't that what the laws they are breaking were set up to do? Namely, to ensure that they are targeting only those who are a problem and not everyone.
It looks to me like we see two different sets of rules and reasoning applied. Again, there is nothing new about that. It seems to be the pattern with everything done by those in this administration. One set of rules applies to them and another set of rules applies to everyone else.
