We Hear You

Guys, we clearly hear you. It's not like we're not checking our own website (I've read everything you guys have written and been amused and impressed by some of the speculation). And I completely understand and more than empathize with your frustration about the lack of news on the show.

Would we tell you exactly what's going on if we could? Of cooouuursssee!!!!

Let me put down two rumors real quick though. This has nothing to do with content or a suspension.

Finally (for now), we will definitely do a show on Monday. Check back into the website to see when and where. Again, We're totally sorry about the confusion and the lack of information.

We just a need little patience and faith that we're looking out for you and that we can't wait to do more shows as soon as possible. Thanks and we love you.

It was observed on another thread that both Cenk & Britney Spears were MIA on Thursday morning,  and speculated that they had hooked up. Why didn't Cenk deny that?

Obviously, Cenk doesn't want to get Britney in trouble for missing her court proceed ing, and is  keeping silent to  protect her.

I think what's been so frustrating, and what you need to understand, is that the silence leads to worry and/or anger. It's so much better to say that something is going on that you're not at liberty to talk about, that you're working on a solution, than to say nothing at all.  We understand constraints in what you're allowed to say openly, but total silence only leaves us all to our imaginations.

We love you, and we want to support you. Thank you for finally acknowledging us and giving us something to look forward to from you on Monday.

Oh, and if "(for now)" changes, and there's no show on Monday, could you please leave a little note so we don't worry that you got hit by a bus?  Thanks!

Can't wait for Monday.  Let us know (whenever it is legal to do so) if there is anything we can do to help this situation.

Thanks again.

Send friends, family and coworkers links to your favorite TYT video clips or Cenk's editorials (and or post them to political/general discussion websites you visit) this week.

Let people know how awesome the show is, and try to gear anything you send to that person's (or group's) particular interests (some people like entertainment, some like politics, some enjoy humor, some ranting, some like Iraq issues while others find that boring, etc.).

And like I said in the other thread, become a member if you aren't already, at $10 a month it's pretty damn affordable!

Also, buy a gift subscription for someone and keep in mind that people are much more interested in politics for the next year because of the elections, so it's perfect timing. Who knows, maybe you can even get that mildly apolitical/cynical friend to get interested if you choose the right clip (Wes is pretty cynical, maybe choose one with him in it!).

PS---Obviously we can do donations but IMO, if possible, gift subscriptions are better because they generate revenue AND more listeners (who have the potential to create even *more* listeners and so on).
If I didn't have them already, I'd ask for an MP3 player and a year of Young Turks for Christmas and or my birthday (coming up later this month).  Anyway, something to consider...

I was about to join up, but was concerned about getting good service. And the internet service seems a little hang loose, to be honest. The two-day absence with mysterious clips popping up on the site with no news or explanation is an example.

I think your anti Democratic leadership diatribes have been rather low-key, polite and restrained, when I consider the big picture of what is going on. If you got in trouble for that, hey, I'll send in a few bucks anyway. I won't need no stinking membership to reward good citzenship and patriotism.

You see, my thoery is they proposed a deal with YouTube. They get back on there, if they go off the air. The $1,000,000 to do so also helped make their decision that much easier. But, they still have to dot the I's and cross the T's, so it's not a done deal yet.

Orrrrrrr....

Mitt paid them $2,000,000 to buy out of his new Clear Channel obligations, as an investment towards his party and candidacy as they were clearly undermining that with  information and stuff. All of the Young Turk folks (along with Cliff) had decided to go on an impromptu vacation to Australia and with some of the extra money, they invested in an exact replica of their studio to shoot their clips.

Orrrrrrr....

This has something to do with Ben REEEEEEALY not wanting to go back on the show.

I'm looking forward to Monday. I hope things work out.

"We're totally sorry about the confusion and the lack of information."

You DO realize that the foregoing statement requires me to ask:

Yes, but are you totally, totally, totally, totally, totally sorry?

Hmmm?

Damn it .. I was hoping you where banned for some reason. I like the getting banned from Huf Po... YouTube etc  ... I say fuck em  and spark up another one.  I always ask myself.. what would Hunter S Thompson do?

Ah, the communications void surrounding corporate machinations. I've been through it so many times.

Occasionally it's good news. Often it's not. Usually it has to do with some sense that if things are kept secret and quiet that it absolves the management dirtbags of their sins.

I hope to hell it's good news.

by peteplace on 12/15/2007 07:19:59 PM EST

that was clear as mud!  No, seriously, I can appreciate that there is an issue here that cannot be discussed, and I know you will tell us loyal turkies (wait there must be a better name for fans of TYT!) what's going on when you are able.  But since I am battling some kind of Martian death flu in through here and am stuck in the house on a Saturday night, let me continue the excellent speculation you all were putting down on the other thread.  OK, so we know this was not caused by something Cenk or whoever said or did, but notice he did not say it had nothing to do with AAR, so quite obviously there is some dispute with AAR going on here.  Now, I doubt that AAR pulled the plug on the show because if they had, why would they keep running Best Of shows?  (I remember when they unceremoniously axed Mike Malloy, they didn't run Best Of Malloy shows, they immediately brought in guest hosts.)  So it's clear to me, or as clear as anything can be to me through my medicated haze, that AAR does not have a problem with the Turks but vice versa.  I think that Cenk and company are staging a walkout, probably over something financial.  (Also, if AAR had canned the Turks, there is no way Cenk would not be talking about it, but if there is a legal dispute, involving money or rights or whatever, he would not be in a position to discuss it.?  OK, so carry on if you care to while I go pass out again!

Peace,
Rico

"Not related to suspension" does not rule out cancellation, being dropped by AAR, AAR failing to pay the Turks.

I expect, given the sync'd timing with the Kent Jones canning, that AAR is either dropping support for the Turks, or has failed to pay some bills that enable the Turks to broadcast.

Hey all you Veterans out there, a sincere thank you for your service to our country.  I live by the Los Angeles Veterans Cemetery and drive by all those stark white gravestones as far as the eyes can see, homeless veterans with signs asking for help right outside the cemetary gates.

  "Support Our Troops".  Right?

What rank Hypochrasy.  It just breaks my heart to see these guys.  Most of them look like you and me, not like the typical homeless you see around these parts.  I have a strong unsettling fear that within 10-20 years we will all see scenes like this everywhere.  I myself have never served (flat feet, athsma, 135 lbs, etc)  + I dont know anybody who has served so I have no knowledge of your community.

I want to do something to help.  Please take into consideration that I have started a career change which has me back in school, i'm getting married in 3 months and starting a family, and my finances are limited.  I think though that I can sacrifice some time here and there and some cash.  What is the most effective way that I can do something to help these troops out?  The Vet Center around the corner has a nice garden that they sell plants from at the farmers market they hold there, i was thinking about offering to help there once a week or something.  Any of you know what the best most effective aid org is for vets - to donate to? I would really appreciate the advice.  Who knows, maybe some of you Angelenos might join me??

Thanks for your time-keep on Turkin,

Sean

Cenk want to let you know that I signed up for the Cruise because your one of the speakers I now see that another special guest was added after you have been removed(Jim Higtower) I have just sent email to The Cruise Authority I feel this is like a bait and switch, I paid in full got hotel & Flight paid for last month based on hurry before there sold out and now I see they have. Limited offer again with same discount what a snow job the AAR/The Cruise Authority did. &n bsp;     ;

I like Jim Hightower, but having your prime reason for going pulled is brutal.

When did the switcharoo occur, on what date?

Please say it isn't so that this is another one of Air America's "Brilliant moments in programming" where they just let go fabulous on air talent like Marc Maron, Mike Malloy and now Cenk????? Please tell me it isn't so. I may have to go back to NPR....

by birdiejeans on 12/16/2007 12:11:56 AM EST

I'm trying to keep my cool before Monday's show, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to take Seder's AAR survey since he's now the Editor-in-Chief at Air America.  Let these fuctards know (not you Seder - the suits), what we want on AAR just in case they have their heads up their asses!

Take the survey

Don't get me wrong, I love Air America and I've been onboard with them since early 2004 after seeing Franken on his book tour.  Sadly enough with the exception of TYT's morning spot, I have completely lost trust in their decision-making ability as it relates to programming.  I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now, but if they're screwing with TYT let me fowarn you - "our arrows will blot out the sun!"

until after Cenk's show on Monday.

If the news is bad, we will know better how to respond.

The survey is really just on your listening habits so I don't think it would really matter when you take it.  I do understand that any other sort of action/emails should wait until we know what's really going on - but who am I to say...

I'm gonna say it's because they're jumping ship from AAR and heading back to Sirius.  PLEEEEASE let that be what's going on!

by jarett on 12/16/2007 03:51:11 AM EST

Jarett, hopefully the XM-Sirius deal is about to close and we will be allowed to subscribe (ala carte) to individual channels on both services.

More listeners for the Turks, more listening options for the fans.  Win-win situation, AFAIC.

I think you're on to something Jarrett.  I thought it was odd to recently see Jayar, Jesus and Ana wearing Sirius jackets in studio....

Sirius? No, I believe they have cut a sweeter deal: Public Access, Channel 33,  Arlington, VA.

Cenk, that was pretty cryptic but I am sure you have to hold your tongue - I cannot imagine that is very easy for you!

I certainly do hope AAR isn't making another brilliant programing change. They apparently canned Kent Jones from Rachel's show... Then mystery disappearance of TYT for two days? I wonder what other "business decisions" will be made that will hurt the network?

I am losing my faith in AAR fast. I hate to think that I'll have to go back to listening to Bill Press in the AM! Sorry, he isn't so bad but TYT are 1874% better!

by queervegan on 12/16/2007 06:11:27 AM EST

He got old REAL fast when he came on the air on Sirius.  Talk about boring.

What a waste of uncensored airtime he is.  Is he still on?

I bailed on Sirius Left after the Turks left and Sirius altogether to wait for the merger and new hardware to come out.

Someone at AAR is smoking some strange agents that is causing them to go absolutely insane. Your best product has been absent without explanation.

by bsurgeon on 12/16/2007 11:46:43 PM EST

Cenk will come on today and say, "We've got some incredibly important news for you later in the show that will explain everything, but first there are just a few things I've got to tell you about that are just unbelievable."  And then we'll get a sort of funny, off-the-wall, LA story about something that happened to him over the weekend that will last for about an hour, including interjections from Dave & the Gang. Then we'll get to the good stuff.

Ben is coming back.
