Communists?

Google Technorati del.icio.us digg reddit
I just heard the comments about Edwards having a big house and that he's too rich.

When did Americans become communist? Now Cenk is saying that we should have a 100% tax on inheritance. Are you nuts?

If someone works so hard that they have something to leave to their children then why should the government get it? So they can cause more wars? So they can employ more government employees who can't get decent jobs in the private sector? So they can give it to people who won't find jobs? Get real!

I'm keeping my money in the Czech Republic. They've rejected communism.

So, if someone like, say, Prescott Bush makes his millions selling armaments to Nazis, it's perfectly acceptable that his family gets to feed off his blood money? Doesn't matter how it's acquired, the wealth should stay in one family in perpetuity?

That's the current system.

How's that working for America? Makin' it strong?

Sounds like you're concerned about people earning their own wealth - what did Paris Hilton do to earn the money other than be born into the right family? The Lords and Ladies get to pass their wealth down and the Serfs get to pass along their debt, that's what you'd prefer?

That's ALL the people, not the richest 1%.

How do you feel about Gustav Klimpt's paintings, Carnegie Hall and the Carnegie Library, and 40 acres and a mule?

I'm all for 40 acres and a mule.. except I wouldn't know what to feed the damn thing.

Cenk's theory that you have to use roads to get to the Hilton hotel therefore he should be forced to give ALL of his fortune to charity is a bit beyond the pale heh

I believe Hilton should give something back... and Bill Gates... and Carnegie .. etc.. just not be forced to give ALL of it away.

I was on my way to Prague when the Soviet tanks rolled in--the friends who I was supposed to meet barely escaped to Sarajevo where it was safe, more or less. I couldn't go to Lublijana in the 90s because of war. I'd put my money in Switzerland, or Canada, or the US before considering Prague for anything other than a holiday. Some of my money is in HSBC, a quasi-British/Chinese bank, that prints much of the currency for Hong Kong.

The US has never been Communist. Fascist, yes, but not Communist. No country has ever been Communist because it doesn't work--never has, except in name only.

There are several important reasons for the inheritance/estate tax. Dynasties are bad. Government dynasties are worse. Corporate dynasties are the worst. People who become wealthy in the United States because of their own efforts are assisted by the government in many ways, including those mentioned by Cenk.

If the inheritance tax hurts farmers and small business [it doesn't now] then raise the ceiling to $10 million. If Paris Hilton's granddaddy wants to give his money to charity, then let him--after he pays the US government for making his own inherited wealth possible. However, the person who earned the money was rewarded in his/her lifetime, and heirs should be encouraged/required to give back to the country that enabled ordinary people to become extraordinarily wealthy. Then others can also have that opportunity through a government of the people and not the plutocracy. The creators of our Constitution hated corporations almost as much as they hated dynasties.

June 22 is AntiFascism day in Croatia. What does the Czech Republic celebrate?

I respect self-made men like Bill Gates and the Google Kids. They should be well rewarded for creating tens of thousands of American jobs and billions of dollars in shareholder equity. They do so much for America that we should reward them with huge tax incentives (corporate welfare) to encourage them to grow their businesses and create even more jobs.

But when these guys die, I think the country should get at least 50% of their amassed fortunes.

One thing this country does not need is more worthless Kennedys and Rockefellers, living off trust funds of their evil ancestors. There is nothing in this world that I hate more than a trust fund Democrat who never did anything to earn their money.

I know a lot of wealthy people. Everyone of them earned it, and most of them started with nothing. These are the kind of people I like.

Even if it's 50%, there will still be plenty of trust fund Democrats and Republicans.

It's about Cenk's love/hate relationship with Paris!

I'd like to see us do away with the income tax and the death tax together.

However, the income tax must go first. I would worry about the death tax after we fully repeal the income tax.
