Huck's plan is modeled after a plan by Mark Krikorian, Executive Director of the Center for Immigration Studies who writes for NationalReview sometimes. He wrote a 10 point plan for dealing with illegal immigration on NR a while back, which are supposed to be reflected in Huckabee's plan.
--------------------------- --------------------------- --
" 1. Build the Fence. Ensure that an interlocking surveillance camera system is installed along the border by July 1, 2010. Ensure that the border fence construction is completed by July 1, 2010. (If the fence is done quickly, I will be amazed and pleasantly surprised.)
2. Increase Border Patrol. Increase the number of border patrol agents. Fully support all law enforcement personnel tasked with enforcing immigration law.
3. Prevent Amnesty. Policies that promote or tolerate amnesty will be rejected. Propose to provide all illegal immigrants a 120-day window to register with the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services and leave the country. Those who register and return to their home country will face no penalty if they later apply to immigrate or visit; those who do not return home will be, when caught, barred from future reentry for a period of 10 years. (I never believe anyone who says that they're against amnesty unless they get specific. In this case, what Huckabee has said qualifies as getting specific. He would have a hard time backing down from this if he actually got into office). *idea behind this is so that people can take earned income and property out of the country without having it Confiscated, and so they have a legal way to leave*
4. Enforce the Law on Employers. Employment is the chief draw for most illegal immigrants and denying them jobs is the centerpiece of an attrition strategy. Impose steep fines and penalties on employers that violate the law. Institute a universal, mandatory citizenship verification system as part of the normal hiring process. Prevent the IRS and the Social Security Administration from accepting fraudulent Social Security numbers or numbers that don't match the employees' names.* (This is the single biggest key to stopping illegal immigration so it's nice to see Huckabee calling it the, "centerpiece of an attrition strategy."
5. Establish an Economic Border. Move toward passage of the FairTax. The FairTax provides an extra layer of security by creating an economic disincentive to immigrate to the U.S. illegally. (I like the FairTax, but the FairTax would probably take 70 Republican Senators to pass at the moment, so it's hard to get too excited about it.)
6. Empower Local Authorities. Promote better cooperation on enforcement by supporting legislative measures such as the CLEAR Act, which aims to systematize the relationship between local law and federal immigration officials. Encourage immigration-law training for police. Local authorities must be provided the tools, training, and funding they need so local police can turn illegal immigrants over to the federal authorities.
7. Ensure Document Security. End exemptions for Mexicans and Canadians to the US-VISIT program, which tracks the arrival and departure of foreign visitors. Since these countries account for the vast majority of foreigners coming here (85 percent), such a policy clearly violates Congress' intent in mandating this check-in/check-out system. Reject Mexico's "matricula consular" card, which functions as an illegal-immigrant identification card.
8. Discourage Dual Citizenship. Inform foreign governments when their former citizens become naturalized U.S. citizens. Impose civil and/or criminal penalties on American citizens who illegitimately use their dual status (e.g., using a foreign passport, voting in elections in both a foreign country and the U.S.). (It's about time that we started going this)
9. Modernize the Process of Legal Immigration. Eliminate the visa lottery system and the admission category for adult brothers and sisters of U.S. citizens. Increase visas for highly-skilled and highly-educated applicants. Expedite processing for those who serve honorably in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Improve our immigration process so that those patiently and responsibly seeking to come here legally will not have to wait decades to share in the American dream. Governor Huckabee has always been grateful to live in a country that people are trying to break into, rather than break out of. (Again, this is something that is long overdue and much needed. It's nuts to building a system that gives preference to unskilled workers over highly skilled workers and illegal aliens over people who come here legally. The system we currently have is not only unfair to US Citizens, it's unfair to the foreigners who love this country, play by the rules, and want to become Americans.)
*This policy will be drafted to comply with the final federal court decisions on this issue.
Note: This plan is partially modeled on a proposal by Mark Krikorian, Executive Director of the Center for Immigration Studies. (“Re: Immigration: Ten Points for a Successful Presidential Candidate,” National Review, May 23, 2005.)"

Previously Hawkins had ranked Huckster as the single worst GOP candidate on immigration behind even Giuliani and the evil one himself- John McCain. He speaks high praise of his new plan however-although saying it's lacking a few important things, but taken as a whole it's pretty comprehensive, certainly better than anything Bush would ever put forward.
The problem in my opinion is his PRIOR record. As Wes says, look at what politicians do not what they say. There is a reason why Hawkins had him rated dead last on dealing with illegal immigration, and it was because of a disturbingly far left track record down in Arkansas where he said opponents in the house "didn't drink the same type of Jesus Juice as he did."
Huck's new plan reaks of pandering, and liberals will no doubt accuse him of doing just that while conservatives will wonder if they should trust him and whether or not he is serious about any of it or just wants votes.
AllahPundit says it rocks.
No word from Malkin yet.
It doesn't really matter what they think though because GOD himself is fueling Huck's rise (apparently.)

Here's Bush and Fox negotiating the Security and Prosperity Partners Act, which is a continent-level dialogue with the stated purpose of providing greater cooperation on security and economic issues.
We didn't even know SPP existed until Jerome Corsi author of the "Late Great U.S.A. filed a freedom of information act and obtained 1000 pages disclosing the plans for this shadow government\North American Union.
SPP is niether law nor treaty, it just exists.
"The Bush administration is trying to create the infrastructure of a new regional North American government in stealth fashion, under the radar and out of public view," Corsi claims. "Where is Congress, asleep at the wheel?"
I personally can't help but like the anti-Bush of the Republican field more and more. The Ron Paul supporters storming the Iowa GOP debate when they wouldn't let him speak was quite awesome. He is by far the best on issues of national sovereignty (this video sold me on Ron Paul more than ANY OTHER).
He also is strongly opposed to the Amero, which is being pushed and will ideally be phased in after a McCain-Kennedy style amnesty and open borders plan eventually passes. Congress just signed some sort of Free Trade deal last week- just what this country needs..
"The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is the American Branch of a society which originated in England... (and) ...believes national boundaries should be obliterated and one-world rule established."
- Carroll Quigley, member of Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), mentor to Bill Clinton
Paul correctly points out the the CFR is no more a conspiracy theory than neoconservatism and the weekly standard is just a conspiracy theory. They're real and they have an agenda of a global economy with a global governance.
Cheney used to be the executive director of the Council of Foreign Relations (CFR) (scary video), a fact he kept secret to the public, so that is one way of explaining of Bush's love for open borders, international government, and unlimited Free Trade, but Bush himself is still trying to fullfill his father's mission of global government. Why has Bush devoted so much time throughout his 7 years on pissing off conservatives?
Conservatives have alywas criticized Bush for not leading with ideology and instead compromising to win political battles with Rush saying he's not a "movement leader" like Ronaldus Magnus was, but I think he does have ideology and it's that of globalism with neoconservatism tacked on.
"it's good to be back at the Council on Foreign Relations. As
Pete mentioned, I have been a member for a long time, and was actually director for some period of time. I never mentioned that when I was campaigning for re-election back home in Wyoming – (wry grin, audience laughter) – but it stood me in good "-Vice President Cheney
Was Cheney selected as V.P. because of his commitment to CFR's vision of globalism\global governance?
No one was worse than Bush on sovereignty other than Clinton and eventually Bush 2. I don't remember voting for the candidate that promised us 40 million illegal aliens in our country, but that is what we have. The more I listen to him the more Paul makes sense.
