did the impeachment help or hurt the republicans

because democrats actually care about what people think, the impeachment helped the republicans because it put a divide between clinton and gore.

if clinton had actively help the gore campaign things would be so much different today.

a side effect of what the republicans did is to make impeachment a political tool where historically it was one of the highest legal sanctions.

Well the 1998 elections was the first time since JFK that a president won the midterm elections. It was probably the first time every that a president won a second term midterm election so those results speak for themselves.

At the same time, the asian markets spiraled down and greatly reduced demand for oil. Gas dropped to extremily cheap prices so that also helped Dems greatly. If I remember right it went down by about 50% before the 98 elections to historic lows.

I think the impeachment without a doubt helped the dems in the short term because dems would have been complacent to sit home during the midterms but attacking Clinton riled up the dem base and got them out to vote.

In the long-term it probably helped republicans in the 2000 election because of anger at Clinton I think it. It also tarnished his legacy, and it's hard for many to think of Clinton as a up standing president since he was cheating on his wife in office with what could be considered reckless behavior considering his position and media spotlight at him.

Yes the impeachment helped the Republicans. In fact it helped them in more ways than just seperating Clinton and Gore on the campaign trail in 2000. #1. Gore pushed away from Clinton and it could be argued that this move helped to loose him the state of Tennessee. Clinton won Tennessee in both 1992 and 1996 - a state that Gore lost. If Gore had won in his own home state.... there would have been no Florida Recount fiasco. Bacause TN would have given Gore the electoral votes he needed to seal the victory, and Florida wouldn't have mattered as much as it did. #2. By using impeachment for purely political purposes, the Republicans took that Constitutional check away from the Dems. The Dems are now afraid to impeach Bush for whatever reason. Perhaps they fear it will tear the country apart ( to which I say, "BULLSHIT!") Perhaps they think it isn't advisable to impeach two Presidents in a row - though I would definately argue that a BJ in the WH does not constitute high crimes against the Constitution and treason... but perhaps sending U.S. troops into an illegal war is. Hmmm. In essence what I am saying is that the Republians somehow have managed to marginalize impeachment. The Dems fear to use it speaks for itself.

Could be worse for Clinton, he could be pinching another guy's nipple like Bush is doing in that pic.

How Reagan  really scared the USSR into  ending the cold war...Some how the line "Mr Gobachev nana nana boo boo !" didn't quite catch on...so he followed up with the wall speech...

Here Ronnie gives the medal of freedom to Micheal Jackson...shortly after this his hair caught on fire while filming a Pepsi commercial.

G W Bush gave a medal of Fredom ito Paul Bremmer...who sold it on eBay along with a few" momentos" from the Green Zone

Ever wonder where Mc Donalds comes up with its cartoon characters....

Of course, Reagan never had any pundit speculation about
his IQ..( just his hair dye) but there was that movie...

the Academy Award nominated "Bedtime for Bonzo " It was critically acclaimed for Bonzo's performance...Reagan was nominated for "Best Supporting Actor"

Reagan got most of his economic policy from here

it won't work in the Senate without solid, formal evidence gotten by investigations.

We're working on that, don't you worry!

was when he was standing on top of that rubble saying what we all needed to hear.  sadly it was all a lie, which is why bush has no legacy other than shame.

Hurt any voters with common sense! They basically turned impeachment into todays equivalent of rehab.

by MountainMan on 03/14/2007 09:01:04 PM EST

What I think is funny. Is the repug base is so simple minded that they think  that if someone goes in rehab " it's fixed"

Cought with a male prostitute while doing crack?  Go into rehab

Cought trying to pick up 15 yr old boys?  Go into rehab

You forgot, you go into rehab, and then tell everyone how much you love the Baby Jesus, and how you hope those you've hurt can forgive you like Jesus forgave you, and then everything is just dandy.
Latest example Newt and his "confession" of wrong doing.

But it's all OK because when Newt says he's sorry and loves the Baby Jesus, can anyone say hypocracy thy name is Newt? I knew you could.

" Impeachment is off the table -- I keep forgetting. Lying about a blowjob is a high crime, but lying about Iraq's nukes is merely high Kissinger. The daily actions of Bush, Cheney, Gonzales et al are the very dictionary definition of "impeachable," but because thirty percent of fundamentalists, and a hundred percent of Fox, would scream bloody murder, we will have to wait for this endless Administration to end, wait until after the pardons are inevitably issued, after the Freedom of Information requests are finally honored, after the manacles on the presidential archives are finally broken, after the press finally suffers stenographer's remorse, after the historians at last connect the dots, to learn how really bad it has been, how close we have danced to the brink of a de facto coup.
