..and not that kind of bush, heh.  Will it be like the Odd Couple? Will we both survive? Who will be victorious (besides the oil companies?)

My [formerly known as] foreign friend and I are about to undertake an exploration of America that will traverse something resembling this crudely drawn route:

Enter some filler text about the rest of the tale coming soon (in an edit to this post) from a library/internets cafe near you.

06.06.07: No one is dead yet. There have been a few close calls, but I was just told to blame it on GWB. Hmm...

Don't automatically dismiss a Bush fan. It could always be worse.

Glycerine is one of my favorite songs. I think growing up in Florida in the 80s you are required to be partial to Journey- no matter how horrid it is.  Is it bad that I almost sang along to the youtube video?

The video of Gavin in the rain is great. The rest of the band couldn't stand the weather.

I never caught the Journey bug, but I know plenty of the lyrics. I think it was required by law to play one of their songs every hour or risk having the broadcast license revoked by the FCC.

What I would do is after hitting Kansas City, go due West into Colorado and head up through and alongside the Rockies until you hit the East-West route in Montana and pick up the planned route from there.

Good suggestion. We'll hash out the route a little more this weekend and head off Monday after his gig.  I think there was something in South Dakota he wanted to see. But ultimately there really isn't a planned route - just a few destinations and a bit of wandering.

What the hell does a Journey video have to do with this journey?

Bush was a rock band, dude. The lead singer was Gwen Stephani's ex-boyfriend (Gavin somethin 'r other, desperately wanted to be mistaken for Kurt Cobain).

FUN FACT:  "Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'" was officially my very first favorite song.  Soon as I was old enough to recognize a musical progression, I was sitting in the child's seat in the back of the family station wagon going, "Naaa naaa na naaaa naaaa..."

Actually, Gavin is Gwen's husband and baby daddy.

I am so glad you were also raised in the warmth of power ballads! (For me it was power ballads and Motown)

If anyone thinks a cross country trip with a Bush fan is bad, imagine the fun of having a Journey fan setting the play list.

Maybe I'm thickheaded, but now I get it with this new and improved syntax.  I like Machinehead.

If I were you, I'd prepare like a jealous astronaut just in case you go crazy and need to put the pedal to the metal.  For some reason I'm also thinking Shania Twain might be a good music pic to cool things down if they get hot --- Have fun!!!!!!
