The Rosie Side of Sexism

Google Technorati del.icio.us digg reddit
I find all the noise about Rosie O'Donell's fight with her cohost on "The View" as incredibly sexist.
If we use Fox News as an example. Almost every show is about piting, usually, two men faced off fighting and yelling about the politics of the day. Sometimes saying the most horrible things to each other.
But, when two women do it, it becomes a media driven "Catfight"

I agree with you.  Much of the fascination with the Rosie brouhaha is a voyeuristic trip.  We don't make near this much fuss about the boys' fighting.

Laura Liasen is on most Fox News round tables and she never "catfights." Actually no one on Fox News is allowed to catfight, niether men nor woman. That is one of their trademarks. The liberals they hire don't go bonkers like Rosie into emotional fits of rage like Rosie does...and they also don't refuse to come back to work out of anger.

Juan Williams always takes a far left position but he is always retrained and allows others to talk. The same can be said for Alan Colmes and the conservatives also.

The reason for the reaction to the rantings of Rosie O'Donnell has nothing to do with sexism.

She made news because she was given a high profile media job, even though she was certifiably insane

And so did they ever find this "physicist" lol to come on the view to explain it? Didn't the history channel do a special on how and why the towers fell. Elizabeth should have just given her a copy of that,.

So, what if they don't allow catfighting. They still allow the jackass that is Bill O'Reilly to "interview" people. You can't even call what he does proper journalism. I would say that kind of defeats the purpose of these so called rules at Fox News Network. As for the liberals they hire, they have no balls. To me, they aren't really liberals.

Well good thing O'reilly does a show and not the news then.

At least, the View doesn't pretend to be a serious news show. The View calls itself a "chatfest" not news. Can you answer why Bill O'Reilly is on a network with the word "News" in its title if his prorgam is a "show?" I think that you are plain wrong and obviously there is no point in continuing to debate this. And the last thing I'll say on this whole issue is that I wish Rosie all the best in whatever she decides to do next.

"Can you answer why Bill O'Reilly is on a network with the word "News" in its title if his program is a "show?""

The same reason that Larry King is on a network with the word "News" in its title if his program is a "show".

Got it?

Talking of fits of rage, I think we can all agree that a single viewing of Billo will disprove this statement, but for those who need a little reminding here is a clip of some of the best of Billo being fair and balanced without emotional fits.

She made news because she was given a high profile media job, even though she was certifiably insane.

Well YEAH!!!! But… no more certifiable than the “fearless leaders” whose lack of planning and vision has cost 3,474 American soldiers their lives in a needless war, while we continue to allow the mastermind who planned, financed, and helped to carryout the attack of 9-11 to roam free, with a whole array of video and audio tapes laughing his ass off at our expense.

No more certifiable than a policy in Iraq that has allowed the country to become the training ground of our enemies, allowing them to take the lessons learned there and spread them across the globe.

No more certifiable than the “bitches” that see sedition and treason whenever someone has the temerity to actually question the policies and practices of the “Decidernator in Chief”, and point out that the things he is saying to justify his policies are just lies.

Well good thing O'Reilly does a show and not the news then.

As has already been pointed out “The View” is also a talk show and not the “News”, but will give you an A for effort with the spin even after caught in a little bit of a “Oh shit they noticed my bullshit” moment.

Can you answer why Bill O'Reilly is on a network with the word "News" in its title if his prorgam is a "show?"

The question should be why is his show called “The No Spin Zone” when all he does is spin the current Right Wing talking points.

I defy you to find the word "News" in the description of the View:

"The View," recipient of the 2003 Daytime Emmy® Award for "Outstanding Talk Show," is ABC Daytime's morning chatfest, featuring a team of dynamic women of different ages, experiences and backgrounds discussing the most exciting events of the day. The program has received critical acclaim since premiering August 11, 1997

The View" is the recipient of 20 Daytime Emmy® Awards, numerous Daytime Emmy Award nominations, including nine consecutive nominations for Outstanding Talk Show and Outstanding Talk Show Host, the Gracie Award from the Foundation of American Women in Radio and Television, two Prism Commendations presented by the Entertainment Industries Council & National Institute on Drug Abuse, the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding TV Talk Show, the Los Angeles Daily News Reader's Choice Award for Best Morning Talk Show, the Good Housekeeping Great Works Award, and was also voted Favorite Talk Show by Viewers Voice, Inc., a non-profit organization that supports television programming.

Sometimes, believe it or not, "the most exciting events of the day" is the "News"

Thats because American " news" isnt news its infotainment. They quickly pick up and stick with ratings grabbers.  The "news" has been known to carry on for days about Anna Nicole  or some other thing that should be on Entertainment Tonight.

They are all biased.  Lib.. conservative.. whatever flavor..  Its about market share ... not about sharing information on substantive issues.

At one time in America, the " news" was really news.  The news casters went to places we couldn't. Provided the story and let us make up our minds.  Today they conveniently make up our minds for us.

Nothing on Fox is news. It's propaganda.

The clips I saw of Elizabeth and Rosie fighting on the View seemed to me to show Elizabeth being the unreasonable cry baby. Rosie came off far more restrained. As for the Fox News Network not "allowing" their anchors to catfight, they don't need to cause they are all mindless right wing pundits towing the same party line however unreasonable and downright moronic. Rosie and the people she works with on the View don't all hold the same exact views nor get paid to provide support for Republican party rhetoric like the people on the Fox News Network. And I would venture the guess that part of the reason that Rosie gets such crap is cause she is a gay woman or in other words a lesbian. Even if Rosie is crazy, I have far more respect for her than I do the Fox News Network, Elizabeth on the View, or Donald Trump. But of course, the Donald is a whole other topic.
