Solution to oil imports, here by 2010

http://www.livefuels.com/

Praise be to algea, saviors of mankind!

With peak oil only 5.5 years away, http://www.greencarcongress .com/2007/03/swedish_resear c.html and America still 100% dependent on ICE vehicles and liquid fuels, here is hope for the future!

Consider this:

Biocrude can replace 100% of oil the US consumes

Biocrude can be refined in conventional refineries into diesel, gas and jet fuel

Biocrude is 100% carbon neutral, assuming all the machines needed to transport and refine it also run on biocrude.

CO2 needed for the algea can be derived from CO2 scrubbers on natural gas plants running on bio-methane, derived from bioreactors that use animal and human waste as feed stocks!

The fact that Livefuels recently recieved $10 million in round 1 funding and is in bed with Sandia national labs gives me hope that perhaps this mini-manhatten project can suceed in time.
http://www.greencarcongress .com/2007/05/algae_biofuels _.html#more

Of course it would be better to fully mobilize the world behind this project. Imagine the funding the govs of the EU, China, Japan, India and the US could muster for this program!

We need not only economic production of biocrude by 2010, but to ramp it up to millions of barrels/day, and we'll have 3 years to do it!

THE RACE TO SAVE CIVILIZATION IS ON! LETS ALL ROOT FOR ALGEA BIOCRUDE!

With peak oil only 5.5 years away...

That's not what you reported in the past. When the world doesn't end on schedule, you just draw up a new schedule.

We can't have anymore oil men in the White house.

twba, I did not claim in that post that peak oil was here, only that this industry insider does.

From the tone of your post it sounds as if you believe me to be some hair shirt wearing hippy, gleefully awaiting the day when the global economy collapses, western civilization is destroyed and we are all forced to live like indians.

Believe me this is not the case.

I am a tech zealot who is convinced that what lies ahead for humanity is a glorious future in which nano-tech and super advances in medicine alleviate pain and suffering and permit people to extend their lives for centuries.

Only peak oil, occuring before we have sufficiently transitioned to a renewable energy economy, can derail this utopian image.

I am not an energy expert, only someone obsessed with energy security. I read constantly, and everyday, about the topic and am very concearned about what could happen.

I am also very optimistic regarding the potential solutions, although I wish we were funding them to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars instead of hundreds of millions.

The Swedish study I citied is the latest done, and it methodology seems very good, so I used a bell curve approximation of its findings to determine wat year peak oil is most likely to occur.

You may officially note that as my "doomsday" prediction if you wish. 2013, the year peak oil occurs.

Keep in mind according to the Swedes it may actually be as early as next year, or as late as 10 .5 years from now.

I sincerely hope it as late as possible, because if it happens next year we are all fucked to hell and gone.

The current high cost of oil is stable because supply is still a hair above demand and so their is slack in the system.

If supply permentantly falls beneath demand then the price will rise exponentially until oil costs result in a hyper depression that lowers demand enough to catch up to a supply that is declining.

This would require either a constantly shrinking economy, which is very very bad, or a massive die off of billions which is worse.

Either way, once peak oil hits, the skyrocketing price of oil will catch politicians and business execs alike, off guard and the market will be unable to respond in time to save us, because all available funds will be going to keeping the lights on and there will be nothing to invest in renewables.

We must spend hundreds of billions on a renewable energy infrastructre now, while we still can. Time is running very short.

If only the lieing bastards at the American Petroleum Institue were correct in proclaiming peak oil 28 years away.

I think the US getting ourselves off of foreign oil is a national security issue. It will take away a major source of funding for "real terrorist networks". They will then have to rely on the Afghan poppy fields for funding. Thanks again W!

As far as global warming goes.

I can get 2 groups of scientists together. One will tell me that if I keep swiming across a river with small alligators in it nothing will happen because they never attack full grown people. The other will tell me that if I keep swimming in that river I will get attacked eventually. So why would I want to chance it and keep swimming in the river if I can try another way?

ALL the scientists including the ones at NASA say you are going to get attacked. The only ones that don't are rush limbaugh and some wack job in colorado

There really is no down side to replacing old fashioned oil is there?

Unless you work for big oil.

You really can't read, can you?

Did I say anything about forcing anyone to do anything? It's about starting down a path. Toyota is currently making a hybrid that is selling so fast that they have had problems keeping up with supply and I don't see the H2 having that problem. Do you really think Toyota's R&D is sitting around not trying to come up with the next generation that will give us more efficient SUVs and pick ups to sell to you. They want do dominate the entire market and this is a good start. They are going down a path to totally get us off oil eventually.

You sound like the old man who used to say that the TV will never replace the radio.

Since then we have had color TV, cable and satellite, VCR, laser disc, DVD, HDTV and Blue Ray. With a bunch of other successes and failures along the way.

Even though people had to pay a lot for these things in the begining they still bought them. Why? Because they wanted to see the technology grow.

And right now people want off oil, does not matter if it is for the environment or they don't like to kiss the but of anti American countries.

Ask yourself how much easer would are roll as a super power be if we did not have to deal with the wealth of Venezuela, Iran and others?

I keep asking you to think before you type and stop with the name calling. Why don't you listen. You just look stupid.

Did I sound angry to you?

Do I ever sound angry?

Did I say anyone should be penalized for anything? I don't care what anyone does as long as they don't tell me what to do.

What makes you think I'm a lefty or hippie? You made that assumption because I think Bush is an idiot.

I think about the upside and downside of everything. And I was just pointing out the upsides of getting of oil. The ones Rush never mentions.

You told me I got nuthin'

You told me Rove was going beat my ass

You kept telling me I had a choice.

I pointed out your use of the YOU   WORD

Who is angry?

YOU are just embarrassing yourself now. Stop while YOU are ahead.

Some more free advice.

I know. But you (as in KenTX) are still assuming that I (as in me) am a liberal and/or a member of the "Democrat" party. Just because I (as in me) think that Bush is an idiot.

Global warming is my most important issue number 2099 so I almost don't even care which side wins the debate on it. It's become so politicized with people like Al Gore using it as campaign fodder that no one even knows what the actual facts are.

"I am all in favor of people buying hybrids or EVs or whatever they like. I just don't want to be penalized for driving a monster truck, or whatever I like."

You're only penalized at the pump.  Having fun filling up that hummer these days?  Is the wife trying to convince you to trade it in yet?
