A Child of Terror: Sins of the Father
posted by Beyondhiv
Can a Child make "informed consent" to take part in terrorism?
There is a freakish nature of fundamentalist religions that equates their mission with waging war on an enemy determines to oppress their beliefs. From the silliness of "The War on Christmas" or "Christianinty under Attack" in this country to the extremely serious Islamic fundamentalist and their "Jihad" on the west.
We see in this country people determined to live according to there perticular religious doctrines. There are some traditional Mormons who live their lives in isolated places with their multiple wives. There are also groups that call themselves "Warriors for Christ", which just screams oxymoron.
In other parts of the World we have woman being forced to live in nothing short of total oppression from Burkas to female children be banned from schools.
Which brings us to the children. Is a child raised in a household of religious extreme "brainwashed"? Or for that matter, abused?
Are the children of the Rev Fred Phelps, the infamous "god hates fags" and protester of US soldier's funerals, being abused? Are the children responsible for their Hate?

Around the globe two to three hundred thousand children are soldiers in armed conflicts. Many are kidnapped and forced to fight. Some are indoctrinated through a family environment of sympathy for the cause. Are these child Soldiers as responsible for their actions as an adult soldiers? Can a child soldier be a war criminal?

Which brings us to the question of this post. Is a "Child Terrorist" as responsible as an adult terrorist?
The
arraignment of
Omar Ahmed Khadr is about to begin at Guantanamo Bay this week. Omar was a 15 year old boy captured on the battlefield in Afghanistan. He has spent the last five years as an "unlawful combatant" imprisoned in Guantanamo. He is now 21 yo.
Imagine being raised in a home of religious fanaticism for the first 15 years of your life. Then spending the next five under the political fanaticism of the "War on Terror".
