Were you surprized with this pardon?

Honestly I was not surprized with Bush's pardon of Scooter Libby.  I believe that it was their intent
as soon as Libby was indited.  Use Scooter as a diversion from the real issue that the CIA agent was outed.  that was the highest form of treason as acording to the first Bush.  I think that this pardon opens the door to the democrats and republicans like Duncan that thought that it was a mistake to get into this war.   Open the door to get the actual person/ people that leaked the name and manipulated the intelegince in this grand smear campagin that lead to us getting into this fiasco in Iraq that they thought would be a Cake walk.  Because the Scooter took the deal to have his career end with the Bush administration and to take the heat for this crime in return for some cush job that he will get paid far more than the $250,000 fine.   Do you really think that Scooter was the one that needed to be on that stand? The politicians must indite and convict those who are gulty of this treason.  If this is not done then the door is open for those in this admistration to weave the next plot to pull over the eyes of those watching Paris Hilton to get us into war with Iran.  I can't stand for it.  ENOUGH!

Here what calling it a pardon fails to take into account.

He commuted the prison time, but Scooter is still appealling the conviction.....So.........S hrub can still claim he can't talk about an ongoing case.

Rove is smart but I think this time they may have gotten just a little too cute, the right is pissed it not an out and out pardon, and the left is pissed that Scooter gets to skate, and the middle are just disgusted by the whole sham.

I still say the pardon will come when Shrub is on the way out the door.

Ken would you care to place bets?

I really didn't realize how desperate they were to keep him out of jail.  I thought they'd wait until the end of Bush's term and then pardon him.

Scooter didn't seem to me the kind of wiseguy who would  squeal on the rest of his crew to avoid jail, but apparently the Capo di tutti Capos thought it best not to put him to the test.

But I think this is the straw that broke the camel's back.  I put the odds at 3-1 that  Bush won't make it to the end of his term, 5 -1 that Cheney won't, 10-1 that Gonzo won't.

It was amusing to watch GWB defending the commutation:  In so many words, he said, "Hey, he still has to pay the fine!  He's still convicted! He still can't practice law! He's still on probation!"
The fine can be paid with 5 speaking engagement fees, assuming he can get 50K per speech, which does not sound out of line based on what I've been reading.  A pardon would clean up the rest of Scooter's problems.
