"Enough" Sunday

If you like this story, digg it!
On Sunday, Wes Clark, Jr. and I will be going to the Federal Building in LA to start a simple protest. We just want to say "Enough!" (A TYT listener is selling "Enough" t-shirts at no profit.)

It's a simple message. Wes explains it in more detail on his Daily Kos diary here. It's nothing fancy, we just want to go out there and let people know that we have had enough of this runaway, lawless administration.

We're supposed to live in a democracy, unfortunately a lot of times the party you voted for won't represent your interests anyway. But we can't forget that people can make a difference. As Jesse Jackson said in a recent speech, "There is value in standing up."

So, we hope you stand up with us on Sunday between 12Noon and 1PM on the corner of Veteran and Wilshire (11000 Wilshire Blvd.).

More importantly, if you don't live in LA, please try to get a similar movement started in your local area. It just takes a couple of people to get together before things build. You can use this site and the forums here to organize on the local level. You can also use Daily Kos where people are already talking about how to get together in the comments section under Wes' diary.

If you do get together, take a picture and send it in to us and we'll feature it on the site. We want to do this every Sunday until we build momentum and perhaps a community. What's the worst that could happen, you meet a couple of people who are like-minded and share an hour on a lovely Sunday afternoon. Remember democracy? Remember what it felt like? Let's give it a try.

Do you believe?

Hope to see you there, either in person or through your pictures.

I have been feeling like we are in a revolving door syndrome. In part by design and in part by our own in actions, we have been made dysfunctional. It seems the 2000 defeat of Al Gore crated a post spiral sense of hopelessness that continues today. Is it time to adapt another role? This hopeless one is getting old.

To be effective, you sometimes have to come from a sense of power. It is a wonderful thing seeing our nation in its power and might during WWII. We rose to defeat a terrible ideology then, and now we stand on the brink of a disaster. The villain now is not Hitler, Mussolini or Emperor of Japan. Our villain is Gorge W. Bush and Dick Cheney.

The first step on their agenda was to acquire as much power as they can consume. The power grab would insure little or no opposition, and they peaked out with all three official branches of government and one unofficial branch we called the media. To top things off, Chaney announced he was another branch for which we would call the fifth branch of government.

It is about time we present better then sheep. For too long, we did nothing but blame. When we got tired of blaming Bush and the Republicans, the liberal, sometimes called the “loony lift,” blamed themselves.  They are still blaming their own today. We have did everything but stand up and come from the position of power, which is an ability everybody can come from.

So, what do we have to lose? If the power play does not work, we can always return to our sheep position in full. Impeachment would be my first act of power we need to coordinate. This will take more then statements. Someone with the ability to lead will need to drive this project. We have the personal; we need only start the process.

Are permits needed?

by los guantanamosos on 07/05/2007 09:19:49 PM EST

... though small protests this weekend, without signs, wouldn't likely draw police attention.

I checked on permits and they said we were okay as long as we kept it to the sidewalk. If it gets really big later and we need to spread out to the grass in front of the Federal Building, then we have to apply for a permit (which they assured me is an easy process).

Cenk, I love the "enough!" approach and hope to participate in a rally/gathering once I'm back in town (Chicago).  In the meantime, some thoughts...

You (we) really need a website -- however crude and/or manual -- to track protest site locations. The DKos, HP & TYT threads are too difficult to sift for information... and are getting way too overloaded w/ off-focus rants.

Also, it looks like Cindy Sheehan is planning a march to Washington, from Crawford, starting on July 10th, so maybe her march could be somehow coordinated to participate in an "Enough" gathering in some city during an intervening Sunday.  See here

If I lived in LA, I'd be there w/ ya.  In lieu of that, I've forwarded the info to an ex-gf down there.

Good luck.

What can be done to make sure that TV and print news shows up to cover this?

by jarett on 07/07/2007 03:23:39 PM EST

I hope it happens organically and the media has to cover it eventually. But for the moment being, I don't want to hype it up and build up expectations.

I want people to do this even if it's just one or two people, both becuase I think it will build momentum naturally on its own and because this is something worth doing for its own sake.

I've posted a list of ENOUGH locations picked up from posts at various sites. I will update it as we go along. If you know of any that are not listed, please post the street and city/state in this thread. Thanks. List here: http://www.awesclarkdemocra t.com/2007/07/enough.htm

I'm picking them up when I see them. Anybody who shows up can just get started, though, or decide on a different site. There are no leaders is my understanding.

At noon there were two of us but soon there were 6 and near the end we added three more. With few people notified and almost no advance notice, that was a GREAT turnout. This is a fairly conservative area of San Diego North County. We'll do it again next week. It is at the corner of Twin Peaks and Pomerado Rd. on the San Diego/Poway border. Our location is a very busy intersection; we had many very enthusiastic honkers, wavers, thumbs uppers, and very few negatives. Most ignored us!
