Jill Pike's Absolute Truth...

Just under five years ago I sat opposite a man trying his damnedest to ignore me. How could he have known that his plan (one that works 9 out of 10 times on me) would backfire? For most, ignoring my existence will transform me into a lovesick puppy begging for just a crumb of your attention but for Cenk all it got him was a giant pain in his ass for half a decade. He made one fateful mistake that night...

he couldn't stop talking to me once I asked him about his favorite subject, "Cenk". Then, to eternally seal the deal, he did something nice for me. Upon hearing that I was a die hard fan of talk radio he invited me to his studio, which then was just a few mics scattered around his dank apartment, to do a segment on his "radio show". Cenk had broken the two cardinal rules: he acknowledged I was sitting at the table when I spoke up and then was kind enough to cater to my interests. There was no way in hell I'd sleep with him after that! Instead of becoming the third notch on the bed post I basically became his first wife: demanding, opinionated, bitchy, pouty, endlessly annoyed with him, and best of all his most devoted fan. Now, I don't want to speak for him but I believe both Cenk and I look back on that evening with warmth in our hearts and immense gratitude that our paths crossed. I know for me, these last five years have been and will be some of the most instrumental years in my life. First, I was given the incredible opportunity to sit along side of Cenk and Ben to co-host a show that I am so proud to have been a part of creating. Placed in a situation with co-workers, guests, and listeners who are sharp, intelligent, and passionate I was challenged to grow, investigate, and expand my mind beyond my, then, small world. I have met incredible people and had the privilege to attend and participate in events that I am so proud to have been a part of. Most importantly, I have been given a family. A family that includes everyone here at the Young Turks but that also includes our devoted and supportive fans. You guys crack me up on a daily basis and when you're not making me smile you are encouraging me and challenging me to wake up everyday and make sure I keep our favorite swarthy Turk on his toes. ; ) My time here at the Young Turks has planted a seed that is determined to grow. I have decided to give Lindsay, Britney, and Paris a break and focus my energy on the real drama, POLITICS! I'm packin' up and finally getting out of Los Angeles with my sights set on our glorious capital, Washington D.C. Never one to have a plan before going into battle, I have yet to figure out exactly what I'll be doing but I assure you wherever I go I will be preaching "The Absolute Truth"...but this time behind the camera. : ) With endless love and gratitude, Jilly Jill

What a well written and moving farewell. I'm sure the move to D.C. will be good for you. We need people with your passion fighting the good fight; right there in the belly of the beast.

You better come back from time to time, Jill. I will miss you. I've decided that if I were a lesbian, I would totally stalk you. You are now on my list, along with Sarah Vowell.

Kick ass at whatever it is you decide to do!

There is no way for me to repay you with the countless hours of pure entertainment, pleasure, and motivation you’ve given me.  You especially, along with Cenk, were the ones responsible for reigniting my interest in politics when at a time I was completely disillusioned with our government, leaders, and even boring Air America talk shows that all seemed to talk in one.  Of course, you are amazingly beautiful and will always stay in my “top 5 list,” but your attraction goes beyond your looks.  As I’ve said before, my admiration of your brute honesty, courage, and ability to call things as they are, will always be remembered.  If I had a daughter, I would say this is “Jill Pike” – a true role model of the 21st century.

I am excited to hear you are going to Washington and will be focusing your “energy” on politics.  My selfish side screams NO, but deep down I’m truly excited you’re moving beyond the Absolute Truth and LA.  Don’t get me wrong, being that I work from home, you were my main motivation in getting up in the morning to start work at 9:00 so I could watch the AT live.  I can’t tell you the number of times my girlfriend would scream “is that that damn Jill Pike!”

I swear to god, whether it be Arrested Development, first loves, Janeane Garofalo, or Jill Pike, the things I fall in love with always seem to go away.  I guess that’s life as we move forward and I truly wish you the best!!!!

Thank you so much for all that you've given to the TYT and the Absolute Truth all these years. As listeners, we probably had no sense of just how much time and effort it took to do all that you did for the two shows. Not only that, thanks for your incredible candor. I don't think I've ever come across a host so willing to give listeners such an open view into their life, giving us the chance to know where you're coming from on a lot of issues and also just being able to know you better as a person.

Thanks for everything, Jill, and best of luck in D.C. We all know you'll be a great success.

I will miss you and the Absolute Truth.  It was clear that your situation could not go on forever.  I look forward to hearing about you turning D.C. upside down.  Just don't show up on Crooks and Liars or worse yet Perez Hilton's site!

We'll miss ya.

And come back here and write once in a while, will ya?

Good luck in DC Jill.  I highly recommend the Brickskeller (on 22nd near GWU) if you're ever looking for a good bar.  Great beer selection!
