Celebrity Politicians

Fred Thompson has thrown his hat into the three-ring circus that is the 2008 Presidential race. What does this mean for voters?

My next entry will target the Democratic celebrities. Yes, that's right. No one is safe from me.

I first saw Fred Thompson in the movie Red October. I love that movie, and I thought his character was hilarious. Fast forward a few years, and he stars in one of my favorite TV shows: Law and Order. When I heard that he was also a politician, I was immediately skeptical.

As a rule, people are stupid. They are also lazy. There is no doubt in my mind that American voters will know of Fred Thompson purely by his reputation, not his voting record. He was on Law and Order, so he must be ok, right? Don't get me wrong; I am a total Law and Order geek. I appreciate his character. But that's how I know him: as a character. I don't want a character as my President. We made that mistake once (Reagan) and I fear that we are about to make it again.

Fred Thompson is not the only celebrity Republican out there. There's also Rudy Giuliani, the ferret-hating former mayor of New York. That's all I know about him, really. He hates ferrets, his daughter supports Obama and he's had lots of wives. Also, he seems to blame everything on Al Qaeda. Sound familiar (the Al-Qaeda part, not the ferret/wives part)? But he was mayor of New York on 9/11! He's a hero!

Well, George W. Bush was the president on 9/11. Maybe this is Al Qaeda's secret plan: frighten the American public into voting for morons simply because the morons were in office on 9/11. If that's their plan, it's working.
