Cenk Plans to Sue Stephen Colbert!

Video evidence that if Cenk tells a joke, Stephen Colbert is ready to steal it. Read the press release below for more details.

Air America Host Sues Stephen Colbert for $65 Million

SEPTEMBER 19, 2007 (LOS ANGELES, CA) Cenk Uygur, host of Air America’s morning show “The Young Turks” is suing Stephen Colbert of “The Colbert Report” for $65 million. Mr. Uygur charges that Mr. Colbert has stolen his jokes on many occasions, but he can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that his “Klingon joke” of September 7th was directly pilfered by Mr. Colbert and recycled on his September 11th program on Comedy Central.

Mr. Uygur is considering adding Comedy Central, MTV Networks, Viacom, Bus Boy Productions, the head of Bus Boy Productions, Jon Stewart, to his lawsuit. Anyone and everyone related to stealing the aforementioned joke should “lawyer up” according to Mr. Uygur.

Mr. Uygur explained, “Today’s word is: lawsuit.”

He added, “As OJ would say, ‘Think you can steal my sh**? Up against the wall mother f**ker.’ I couldn’t have said it better myself, that’s why I didn’t; I just quoted him instead.”

As to the large sum of money sought in compensatory and punitive damages, Uygur explained, “If a pair of lost pants is worth $65 million, then my jokes are worth a hell of a lot more. How do you value the gift of laughter? I think the Mastercard commercials nailed it. Priceless!”

Uygur added, “Except this time it has a price and it’s $65 million.”

Then Uygur added, “Look, he’s messing with my livelihood. That’s how I put food on my kid’s table. If I had kids, that’s definitely where I would put the food. Plus, my girlfriend won’t have sex with me anymore because she says I’ve lost my sense of humor. I told her I didn’t lose it, it was stolen. I looked it up, they have a legal word for it: it’s called loss of consortium. That means no more hanky-panky and it costs big time in lawsuit world.”

Uygur added, “I have nothing further to add.”

Since the joke was stolen in California , the suit will be filed in the state of California with California laws controlling. Since the joke was transmitted across state lines and used in New York , there might be federal charges as well.

Irrefutable visual proof of the stolen Klingon joke can be found on “The Young Turks” website. Uygur added, “It is irrefutable.”

“The Young Turks” airs live on nationally syndicated Air America Radio and XM Satellite Radio, Monday - Friday, 6:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. ET. The program also streams simultaneously as a first of its kind live video show on http://www.theyoungturks.com. “The Young Turks” is hosted by Cenk Uygur, who is also known for his blogs on The Huffington Post and AOL’s Newsbloggers. Recent guest on “The Young Turks” include Senator John Kerry, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Jimmy Carter, Reverend Jesse Jackson, conservative pundit Mary Matalin, NBC’s Brian Williams, ABC’s Sam Donaldson, Actor Matt Dillon, General Wesley Clark, Ralph Nader, Pat Buchanan, amongst numerous others.

Ok, Ok, Ok - haven't you had enough?

Why would you want to impress upon the world your inability to deliver entertainment?  Is what you really want a small cameo on the show?

This is all you will hear from me, please call our board to request your spot.  I don't think however, that I will have more than 15 seconds for you.

As for your joke, please don't flatter yourself - nobody at this show or anybody I know spends their time with you.

Stephen

i agree with Stephen Colbert... So what if you said it first did you patent it?? probably not in 4 days time. and even if you did, he did not say the joke he commented on the different candidates commonly refering to 'honor' and then played a clip from what looked like a sci-fi show and then called the thing, which actually refered to the "klingon" and then called it Rudy Guiliani! He NEVER said klingon, or imitated them, so you actually stole the idea of a klingon from whatever show that was... and you don't see those sci-fi guys sewing you. I'd keep your mouth shut or someone may serve you with a lawsuit...

Lighten up dude, it was all a joke.  I hope that wasn't the real guy, I thought more of him than that.

I love the press release, very funny.

Me thinks someone is trying to get invited to the Report :-)

Now that would be awesome.

I posted a link at the Colbert Nation.

And of course my comments on the whole sordid affair.

I didn't realize that this had been picked up by the A.P.

Now it's even funnier.

Cenk, write a book first or do something outlandish besides run your lovable but occasionally reckless mouth and maybe we'll let you sit across the table from Mr. Colbert. This caper is a nonstarter.

Colbert has to steal jokes? Kind of pathetic.

by acroso on 09/20/2007 04:30:08 AM EST

I'm sure Steven Colbert is thrilled about this publicity coup. Finally he gets an opportunity to draft off the incredible popularity of Air America.

BLAH HA HA HA HA HA!!!

Cenk is taking some heat on some of the message boards but a lot of those (bitchy and pretentious) dopes have never even heard The Young Turks. They try to compare Cenk's, low-budget, off the cuff joke (primarily for radio) to one likely written by a team of comedy writers for a television comedy show. Regardless of what you think of this (I personally find it amusing) comparing it in those terms is ridiculous, especially since TYT is mostly a political show with some humor sprinkled in rather than a comedy show based on politics. PS---For example, who are *these* fools (commenters)? They talk about trying too hard which is hilarious considering the Posting Requirements for the site: http://wonkette.com/politic s/all-comedy-is-theft-dept' /radio-person-suing-tv-star -for-stealing-klingon-joke- 301595.php

by ihavenobias on 09/20/2007 10:14:21 AM EST

first of all the $65 million that the judge sued for pants was completely frivolous and is what gives lawsuits an awful name. you are doing the same and you made the right comparison.
i think you are just trying to get some attention since you have very little. even if you came up with the joke, stephen colbert made it funny and that's what matters.

by notahugetool on 09/20/2007 10:18:45 AM EST

Saying (paraphrase) "Cenk SUCKS, LOL!" isn't a well articulated point. You obviously never listen to the show, so what qualifies you to comment? I actually listen to The Young Turks AND watch (and enjoy) The Colbert Report. It's not an either/or proposition. And you're missing the point. These shows do NOT compete. One is on television and is (again) a comedy/political satire show. The other is primarily on radio and is (again) a politics show (with some humor and pop culture mixed in, rather than being the main attraction). PS---It's a GOOD thing if progressive radio gets more exposure. I agree with that point even if I don't like a particular "liberal" show. For example, I am NOT a fan of Stephanie Miller (at all, I think her show is obnoxious) but I'd rather have her get attention than say, Glenn Beck. Progressive radio has gone from less than 1% of the market share to about 10% in the last 3 years which is ENORMOUS for any industry. And it's overall a good thing for this country.

by ihavenobias on 09/20/2007 11:23:16 AM EST

It amazes me (both on here and on Colbert Nation) how many people are too thick to see the satire that is dripping off this press release. I'm sure Cenk respects and admires Colbert and Colbert (who guest hosted on Air America a couple times) has at least heard of TYT and has no grudges against them.  But fanatics over at ColbertNation are calling Cenk an asshole loser or a starfucker or desperate for the Colbert bump or who knows what else.

I'm almost tempted to go into whether or not I think the Klingon joke was even stolen but I don't want to encourage people who are too dumb not to know what this is really about.

by TooFolkGR on 09/20/2007 11:46:40 AM EST

Pay no attention to Colbert or his fans. He keeps spewing vile hate speech against liberals on his show and his fans mindlessly lap it up. They hate us for our freedom, our reality based facts and our cool Gladiator sound effects.

This is hate of the worst order. It's like the Klu Klux Klan. It's like the Nazi Party. There's no difference here.

They think we should die. They want Cenk to die. It doesn't get worse than this.

These people are haters. It's what they do, it's all they do.

j/k of course.

This has always drove me nuts. What movie is the sound effect from that Cenk is playing half-way through this?

by lacaid on 09/20/2007 03:55:19 PM EST

I'm pretty sure it is a sound clip from the movie Gladiator before the first fight scene against the barbarian horde. Specifically after one of the barbarians is seen holding and tossing the head of the horse messenger.

It's a bit from Gladiator. Barbarian screaming at/insulting Roman soldiers before a battle if I remember right.

Q'APLA!

xD

I love that people are still taking this seriously.

by jarett on 09/20/2007 04:12:50 PM EST

Well this is working well for you, I've had XM for over 2 years and never heard of this show. This fake lawsuit (65 million like the judge LOL stupid douche) someone may actually know who you are now.People will forget this tomorrow.

by rawkus561 on 09/20/2007 04:24:46 PM EST

I agree that by doing this Cenk has indeed given himself some apparently much needed attention. I've never head of him or The Young Turks, however I have heard of Colbert and The Colbert Report (best show ever?). The jokes are similar but definitely not the same. Nice try Cenk. Now, I think I've given you much more than your deserved 15 seconds enjoy your flash in the pan!

by ColbertFtW on 09/20/2007 05:21:52 PM EST

I love the fact that people take the time to sign up and talk shit about Cenk (as evidenced by them never having previously posted).

by ihavenobias on 09/20/2007 06:14:23 PM EST

I think it was just a funny stunty thing Cenk did but if the sole purpose was to get on Colbert's show why is that the worst thing in the world again?  Just don't get that.

You can shred TYT and Cenk all you want that's just the nature of the internets.  It doesn't bother me.

But to all you people who think  you are actually friends with Colbert and are taking his "side" in the "war" and think this lawsuit is real you are highly purified and ultra concentrated idiots.

It doesn't matter if you know the show or not.  If you don't you are posting about shit you know nothing about.

If you do and you still think this is real please get your doctor to adjust your meds.

by loner on 09/20/2007 08:19:45 PM EST

Cenk is one guy who might be able to avoid getting torn to shreds by Colbert.  He's already been on Olbermann a few times, so why wouldn't Big Steven want him on?  I think it's funny how many Colbert fanbois are calling him and idiot.  I can't believe this thing actually stuck to the wall.  I even saw it mentioned on a Canadian news site.  Now if they can just bring back Ben and Jill we'd have a show.

Ben and Jill? What name suh?

Don't miss either one - they tried to tame the fury, but the fury is unleashed!

 Ben and Jerry, sure.

Watch the daily 10 tonight on E! entertainment network at 7:30pm!  Cenk made the daily 10.  I was sitting down to lunch and turned on the TV to the E! network and I almost choked on my Quesadilla!  Cenks law suit against Stephen Colbert made the list.

by atomicanne on 09/21/2007 12:51:58 PM EST

My 81 year old mother and I were watching that debate and we looked at each other and said, "What a bunch of Klingons!" Then we laughed our butts off.
Cenk would make a wonderful Colbert Report guest though!!

by magicmary on 09/22/2007 10:26:36 AM EST

Some people really need to learn the meaning of the word "joke" and realize this is one.  Damn!
