Bush: OPEC or APEC

Speaking at the APEC business summit in Australia, Bush referred to the organization as OPEC. The guy can't help himself; he's a buffoon. To his credit, he quickly corrected himself with a joke about Australian PM Howard inviting him to the OPEC summit next year, another fine example of Presidential nyuckiness if only Australia was a member of OPEC.

But that was just a warmup. His next gaffe would cause eye-rolling in a seventh-grade history class. He referred to the Australian troops serving in Iraq as "Austrian troops." A seventh-grader might make that mistake and he would deservedly require correction, as well as immediate forgiveness and understanding. Now, if that seventh-grader were the Leader of the Free World there would be reason for concern.

Then after he finished the speech he headed off the wrong way but was redirected by those on stage, preventing him from walking off a "steep drop." Phew.

I feel compelled to make snarky jokes about him being off his meds or drinking again, but I will restrain myself. What I think really happened is that there was a software glitch in the impostor robot that fills in for Bush on trips he'd rather not go on-- the BushBot 3000. Some nutrient enriched fluid they store it in for long plane rides seeped into its processing cortex causing synapse delays. Or a programmer had been careless and goofed up the idiocy parameters. Normally set at Good Ole Boy Hucksterism to endear crowds and charm the wallets out of donors they'd somehow been set somewhere between Just Plain Sad and Fucking Embarrassing.
