Move the Show to a Less Crowded Time Slot

Google Technorati del.icio.us digg reddit
I realize this might be a bit presumptuous, but give it a thought...

Here's a thought - Why not move the show to a later afternoon slot (say 5-8 eastern) so you are not in such high competition with other shows like Schulze, Randi Rhodes, Limbaugh etc... Having it start when it does now sticks you in direct competition with the rest of conventional daytime radio. Even though TYT is now web based completely, you are still mostly drawing from the same pool of radio show listeners.

In the afternoon in most markets, there are local or non syndicated shows (as is the case in my area) that arent nearly as popular or stable. Many of them dont hold near the audience as the daytime and are more ripe for picking off listners to TYT!

I imagine the only TV competition at that time would be Olbermann, but it seems this right smack dab in the afternoon (especially here on the west coast) is gonna restrict a lot of people from the opportunity to listen.

Moving the show gives more people a chance to listen to the political section, which most people I would assume are interested in. I have seen some of the other postings, and a common theme seems to be that we like the RPG, but it might become a bit long and random (never knowing when something will come on etc).

What do you think? Thanks for reading!

I like that idea.Randi is my only other "must listen" daily show.I don't want to give her up.If they started the show at 5:00pm we could at least hear must of her show. And how about a shout out to the chatroom once in a while.New fans should definately be made aware that the chatroom can very helpful if they have problems getting the stream. That's more important than ever without the loop.

Replace Randi with Thom Hartmann. Not only does he qualify as a "must listen", but you'll get *at least as much* information in addition to the amazing historical context he provides.  He's on 12-3pm EST, so as soon as he finishes, you can watch TYT.

Plus he's a little nicer and you don't have to deal with that voice.  ;)

Hey, I love Thom as much as the next guy, he's smart as hell and usually right, but as an entertaining radio show, hes gotta rank right there with oh, paint drying on the wall. We listen to shows like TYT and Randi Rhodes to get excited and to hear people bitch and complain, not to sit through an academic lecture...

I'm afraid that moving the time slot is really going to hamper numbers growth. TYT didnt have to compete with anyone viable at the original time slot (except Bill Press, but hes such a drag...). I still think TYT would do better later in the afternoon when people are home to watch/listen. Does anyone here have solid demographics numbers (who listens and where)?

I hope also that the RPG is a little less Rolling today. The gaps were too long and The content seemed a little stretched. MORE MAIN SHOW PLEASE!!!

Move back to the old Sirius time Slot, or at least 2-4 PT would be better.  Every show I like to listen to starts at 12pm PT, including a local sports talk show and Covino and Rich on Sirius.  Plus there's Ed Shultz who is in that slot on most stations.  It is VERY crowded at that time slot.

There is only 1 Randi Rhodes

Even if I could get past her (obnoxious, in my opinion) voice, I'm still not sure I'd call her show a "must listen"...she pushes the party line way too much, which is another reason I like Cenk, even though I get mad at times when I strongly disagree.&nbs p; He defends AND criticizes all of the dem presidential candidates and isn't afraid to raise a middle finger to the Democratic Party when it needs it.

But hey, a lot of you like Randi (none of my personal friends but people here) so to each his own and I'd rather you listen to her than Limbaugh, or for that matter, the condescending Lionel.  As for Hartmann being boring, that's exactly why I mix-up TYT with Hartmann as the perfect back to back.  One is more entertaining and fun while the other is insanely informative.

Don't get me wrong, TYT is still informative, but in a different way.

She is the no. 1 liberal talk show host in the country. She must push it just far enough.

I'm not a person who argues that the most popular things (music, tv shows, movies, talk shows) must be the best.  In fact, in my experience, often times the opposite is true.

Movies like White Chicks and Scooby Doo make millions (really, White Chicks made over SIXTY NINE MILLION DOLLARS? That's awful).

Brittany Spears, The Backstreet Boys and any number of bad, generic singers/bands also made/make millions and millions and were/are incredibly popular.  Idiotic gameshows that require almost no skill whatsoever hosted by Howie Mandel are incredibly popular. And on and on and on.

Again, I'm glad people are listening to her and not Rush. But since you mentioned it, isn't Ed Schultz the highest rated progressive talk show host and not Randi?

I thought it was either Ed Shultz or Alan Colmes at number one.  I know they both have a lot of stations.  I'm fairly sure it's not Randy.

Speaking of Randy, I do think she's entertaining, but she grates on me after awhile.  Also, on more than one occasion she has steered me wrong.  I've told my family and friends things that she's said, only to read something later that proves her claims false.  I can't think of a specific example right now but...

I don't know why everyone thinks Hartmann is so boring.  I find him interesting and he always manages to get conservative guests to fight with which is always entertaining.  And he's much nicer to his callers than Randy is.  So woot woot Tom.

I found myself thinking she wasn't such a powerful voice for progressives when she would assert things that didn't check out.  The Reich Wing goes into attack dog mode often enough without her handing them the ammo and helping them aim.  Her conspiracy theory side jaunts were also a turn-off.  I can't get AA out where I live but I caught her as a podcast for a while--until I just lost interest in what she had to say.

SAM: What's new, Normie?
NORM: Terrorists, Sam. They've taken over my stomach and they're demanding beer.

Excerpt from  Talking Radio

The "goddess" of liberal talk radio is now the top rated lib talk host in the country. In the most recent Talking Radio survey of syndicated lib talk hosts, Randi Rhodes has ended Ed Schultz’ two year reign as the number one talker and held off aggressive challenges from number three Thom Hartmann and number four Stephanie Miller.

Something else thats awful. Making bad analogies

I think you're just unhappy that I'm not a fan of Randi, which I understand.  But that's no reason to ignore a valid point.

You tried to argue that your show of choice must be good because it was the most popular.  I provided multiple examples that called that claim into question (unless you want to defend bad tv, music and movies).

Here's an even better example: Who's the most popular news talk show host on cable (hint: He's on Fox News and I don't think you'd consider him to have an awesome show, despite the ratings).

I'm not unhappy nor am I a huge fan of Randi Rhodes or anyone on the radio besides maybe Sam Seder. Randi Rhodes is not my show of choice and that is not what I tried to argue. You are trying to equate Randi Rhodes with Rush Limbaugh or a bad movie and you are just wrong. Just because she is no 1 doesn't mean that she is a lying psychopath or bad at what she does. There is no claim to call into questions. She is no 1 its just a fact.

Randi is unbearable.  All she does is get on in her shrill voice and rail against this and that.  There isn't any substance just a lot of complaining.
