We Have No Fear Of The Underdog (Final Blog)

Well, we know who wrote the memos now...Lee Rockwell, founder of the Mises Institute, enemy of the Cato Institute, former Ron Paul staffer, and Editor N' Chief of Ron Paul's newsletters. Paul's current congressional chief of staff said that the content of the newsletters demonstrates "what happens when someone takes advantage of someone else's trust."

Censored and OutFoxed in Iowa, then Swift-Boated going into New Hampshire, Paul can blame himself for not cleaning out his closet before he ran...but why attack old friends if he had no "real shot of winning" anyways if it was to be like his 00.5% support in 88.'

blimp die

Now we're dealing with South Carolina, which begs the question...

South Carolina, what is wrong with you? You gave us this man (video) in 1964 with the tie-breaking vote. Now...you're going to give us McVain?

What happened?

Carville

National Review's John Derbyshire responded to a reader urging him to support Fred Thompson:

"My reader's aspersions on Paul sound a lot like the ones I recall hearing about Ronald Reagan during the first presidential election I witnessed from American soil, in 1976. An office colleague — he was a recent refugee from Eastern Europe — was hot for Reagan. Everyone else, Democrat and Republican alike, laughed at this guy. "Not a real candidate …" etc., etc. Uh-huh...

"When a dysfunctional federal government generates systemic problems, though — and there are some doozies just over the horizon — you need systemic solutions. I believe that in current circumstances, that means a withdrawal of federal power from areas where it never had any proper business being, and a return to a strict reading of the federal Constitution. I see the same belief in Paul. I don't see it Fred."

Paul, Reagan

Apparently, McVain's message of Hope, Optimism, and being Tortured the most is catching on.(video)

"Even though I have beaten up on Ron Paul and his supporters a lot, I'm starting to feel a twinge of pity for them and I'll tell you why: I don't have any illusions about politics. The right side doesn't always triumph, the best ideas usually don't make it through the sausage grinder, the best man doesn't always win -- and, yes, Republicans can decide to pick a guy like a Gerald Ford over Ronald Reagan.

I'm not cynical about it, but I am realistic. The Paul people? Not so much. In fact, they remind me of a scene in the movie, Knocked Up, where this father looks at his children, happily blowing bubbles in the park, and says wistfully, "wish I liked anything as much as my kids like bubbles."

-John Hawkings from RightWingNews.com

The guy in this video wonders around trying to accomplish something and fix things, but he can't get shit done. This kind of reminds me of the Ron Paul campaign...we try to fix the GOP and try to do well in one of the early states, but we ain't gettin' shit accomplished. It's enough to make your head explode so in the spirit of Thomas T. Crown, this will be my final blog I believe, and I will leave the liberals alone for a while. If I were poetic I would write something about horses' rear ends spinning around, but I'm not so I won't bother trying. I only like one of the GOP candidates who doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell, and the GOP is going up in a ball of flames if we continue the current course. As we were informed "he's (Ron Paul) like a one legged man in a kickin' contest." I spend too much time blogging anyhow, and besides, I'm sure MRFred is tired if kickin' me around. I watched some of the Alito "filibuster for a filibuster," got interested, and somehow never left. Thank you all- hosts, guest-hosts, former-hosts, and bloggers. Goodbye and Good Luck...and Go Green Bay Packers!

...So here's to the Underdog (video), throw your headset in frustration, but remember what George Will said: "Goldwater won in 1964, it just took 16 years to count the votes."

Picture yourself in the living room
your pipe and slippers set out for you
I know you think that it ain't too far

But I hear the call of a lifetime ring
felt the need to get up for it
oh you cut out the middleman
get free from the middleman

You got no time for the messenger,
got no regard for the thing that you don't understand,
you got no fear of the underdog,
that's why you will not survive!

I want to forget how conviction fits
but can I get out from under it?
Can I gut it out of me?
It can't all be wedding cake
It can't all be boiled away
I try but I can't let go of it
Can't let go of it,

Cause you don't talk to the water boy
and there's so much you could learn but you don't want to know,
You will not back up an inch ever,
that's why you will not survive,

The thing that I tell you now
It may not go over well
And it may not be photo-op
in the way that I spell it out

But you won't hear from the messenger,
don't wanna know bout something that you don't understand,
You got no fear of the underdog,
that's why you will not survive! (Hey)

Go Pack!

I love the shading (wink wink) on that picture.  No one can say that Ron Paul doesn't have balls.

have you figured it out yet?

The small government, mind your own business Republican party no longer exists and it is just that simple.

by z1p101 on 01/19/2008 02:17:03 PM EST

Acroso, I had no idea you were so hip.

by jarett on 01/19/2008 03:59:44 PM EST

"the GOP is going up in a ball of flames if we continue the current course."

Hello?  You're just realizing this?  The GOP started it's path to this tailspin the moment they decided that it was more important to grab all the power than to govern for the benefit of everyone.  I hate to tell you this but you woke up much too late.  That plane is going to auger in and all the Republican party can do at this point is scream on the way down.  Is that what you're doing?

You know what?  For all the grim satisfaction I will get out of seeing them burn I would have preferred if they had simply done it right and led in an honest and responsible fashion.

by bfaul on 01/19/2008 11:51:23 PM EST

It could be argued that the real start of the tailspin began with the impeachment of Pres. Clinton. I say that because Newt and his ilk obviously never assumed that their own imperfections would come to light. So as soon as they decided to belittle the President, they changed the rules for everyone, too bad the Democrats in congress haven't figured it out yet. (With the exception of Dennis K.)

Allow me to interpret acroso's rant.

He's flipping out because the South Carolina primary has predicted the GOP nominee in seven out of the last seven elections. And tonight, SC predicted John McCain.

Acroso hates John McCain. It's pathological. Maybe it has something to do with illegal aliens. Maybe it has something to do with Supreme Court nominations.

Lord knows John McCain would nominate better judges than Hillary Clinton. And John McCain would guard the southern border better than Hillary Clinton. But acroso simply can't go to the polls and pull the lever for McCain.

Luckily, there are far more Democrats who will be able to hold their noses and vote for Hillary.

Can we take that as a prediction?

I meant to type "will not be able to"

But we can't edit an existing post. It drives me nuts.

"But we can't edit an existing post. It drives me nuts."

I completely agree with this,  it drives me up the wall also.  However it kept you from being completely wrong at least for one day.

1. I said that Florida would destroy Ohio State.

2. I said that LSU would destroy Ohio State.

So let's take a look at Ohio State's record against SEC teams in bowl games played in their storied past.
0-9

I love it.

So, in your theoretical playoff system, would these SEC teams be forced to play in weather like that of today's NFC Championship game?

by jarett on 01/20/2008 11:39:35 PM EST

[ Parent ]
My eight team play-off system will require seven different games i n seven different stadiums.

week one: 4 games

week two: 2 games

week three: championship game

The stadiums will probably have to include Rose Bowl (Pasadena), Sugar Bowl (New Orleans), Orange Bowl (Miami), Phoenix. That leaves three games in cities worthy of a Superbowl venue.

But who would want to go to Detroit or Minneapolis in the dead of winter?

Does it require the end of the other Bowl games (Sugar, Rose, Orange, Fiesta)?

by jarett on 01/21/2008 08:12:58 PM EST

"Does it require the end of the other Bowl games (Sugar, Rose, Orange, Fiesta)?"

We could incorporate the current bowl venues into the new play-off system.

For example, the national championship could be played in Tempe at the Fiesta, while the earlier play-offs could be played at the other bowls. Then, next year, they could rotate, and give the national championship to the Orange Bowl.

So we get a play-off system with no other changes. There are no losers with this proposal, except for THE Ohio State University.

OSU would probably make the play-offs every year, but they could only progress to the national championship by defeating good football teams. Mookie's resistance to this system is very telling indeed.

Ken...The GOP had better stop pissing us off.

Every Ron Paul supporter is running as a delegate. Although Romney won the straw poll in Nevada, the media estimate is based on the straw poll, but the RP people were the ones taking all the delegates or at least a share of them that was not in proportion with the 14% he recieved...he may have won Nevada..we'll find out in a few months when the real count is out. And in Louisiana we already have most of the delegates tied up for tomorrow's caucus. It cost $100 dollars to run as a delegate the the Romney supports missed the Memo.

Look at this and compare with Obama. Thsoe people will be signing up at delegates for the convention. Maybe the GOP should consider that we exist now?

You don't need to tell me what is going on with the Ron Paul campaign. My son is working for Ron Paul in Tennessee and my wife is working for the campaign in Austin. I already get frequent updates.

Ron Paul will run as a third party Libertarian. The only remaining question is whether he will take more Republicans or more Democrats.

If Hillary is the nominee, I think he will take more Democrats.

by KenTX on 01/22/2008 12:34:29 AM EST

He has said he won't. It will hurt the GOP if he doesn't run third party because he will help GOP turnout if he does jsut like Buchanan and Nader helped their respective parties win senate races.

After all the threats Fox has done about him running third party I think it would be just as well if he doesn't. Paul has all the delegates locked up in Louisiana and a larger share than he deserved in Nevada. He has over 100K meetup members by the latest count, which are all getting the word out to run as delegates..committed and uncommitted ones bother. Meaning the Ron Paul people will be stroming the GOP convention whether they are forced to vote for Romney or McVain or whoever...

Won't look good when a large portion of that convention hates the nominee and are booing. Maybe Michael Moore will come again so we can cheer him and boo McVain.

"He has said he won't."

What do you think Ron Paul is gonna say while he is in the GOP primary?

"I'm just here to get free air time and free publicity. After McCain is nominated, I will take my millions of dollars in campaign contributions and run as the Libertarian candidate, like I did back in 1988 and 1992. You didn't really think I was going to give the money back to contribultors, did you?"

As for whether they plan to make a scene in Minneapolis, I think the answer is yes.

by KenTX on 01/22/2008 01:43:24 AM EST

[ Parent ]

For reference I think Obama has 14,000 now

Huck has like 4000

Ron Paul has 104,000 meetups.

It costs $100 dollars to run as a delegate in Louisiana...the RP people are the only ones doing so.
