Although right wingers scream for public display and observance of the Ten Commandments, their fervent worship of this dead president brings to mind the Second and Third of the Ten:

II - You shall have no other gods before me.
III - You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.  You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and fourth generation of those who reject me, but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments.

Though I'm sure there's a commandment or something against that, too, right?

Reagan is loved because of his uncanny ability to BS the people, PERIOD.

Remember the so called "Reagan Dems" he was the one who mastered the art of turning the middle class and the poor against each other. In fact he was able to turn poor people against poor people. To this day you have poor and middle class people voting Republican because they think Dems are ONLY for gays, blacks and women.

Reagan also mastered the notion that Dems are weak on National Security and against our troops. To this day most people believe this. Republican politcos don't support the troops, they support big military contractors like Halliburton

Reagan was also the begining of the end of organized labor. His deregualtion of business laws led to the concentration of corporate power today

The news media was his biggest success. Big corporations now control what you read and see. Case in point: a large segment of our population still believe that Saddam had something to do with 911. A massive failure to inform the people, accident NO WAY.

All this started with Reagan that is why he is the Moses of contempoary Republicans

aside from borrowing more money than all presidents before him combined (tripling the national debt) and doubling the social security tax only to spend hundreds of billions from the social security trust fund was to make people lose confidence in the concept of government.

His administration and that Grover Norquist philosophy are responsible for a large part of the cynicism and apathy we see today, directly and indirectly.  Because when the conservative movement became something that flat out despised government, republicans in office lost their incentive to run well funded, well managed government programs.

So they basically created a self fulfilling prophecy of bad government, and the public went along with it believing that these problems were inherent to government rather than a flawed ideology (and the resultant negative effects).

Conservatives love the fairytale, not the facts.  I can't remember what he did that could be praised from the conservative viewpoint. Let's see?
- Trading drugs for guns doesn't seem like something to brag about.
- Building up the biggest deficit in history up to that time doesn't seem like much to brag about, expecially to so-called balanced budget conservatives.
- Federal Government expanded, not in keeping with the small is better conservative talking point.
- He didn't achieve anything in his promise to fight abortion rights.
- He compromised with the Soviets on arms control against the conservative hardliners.
- In a nationally televised speech on February 5, 1981, Reagan promised to "rebuild the foundation of our society", mission not accomplished.
- Under Reagan, the number of workers on the federal payroll rose by 61,000, not quite in like iwth conservative goals to say the least.
- Reagan expanded Social Security contrary to conservative ideology.
- After cutting taxes Reagan raised taxes.

So there is really a strange vision of Reagan being praised by today's crop of conservatives. .

The Repubs are all in a snit and a lather over amnesty for "illegals," but the only one to have ever actually granted it is their love-god Reagan.
