internet only? what's up Cenk?

I've only heard references to this, but I don't see any written info on it. Did Air America drop the Turks? Won't I be hearing them on the way to work?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I have no info. Should I start bitching at Air America now?

Somebody please fill me in....? Thanks I think.

You wont be hearing TYT  on Air America as of Jan 16th.. Either TYT was dropped by Air America ( from what I heard  TYT was only on about 16 of the 50 or so affiliates) Or TYT decided to move on. Either way..its net only after Jan 15th . You can download the shows though.

and this really pisses me off. I can't get the fucking internet in my car when I'm driving to work. The Turks have been my commute buddies ever since they went to AAR.

Goddam it! Something tells me this isn't Cenk's idea.

I don't know about how many affiliates The Turks are on, but they're on both of the important ones here in Detroit. WTF am I going to listen to now?

Has anyone had any luck encouraging others to become members? If so I'd love to hear how, 'cause most of my friends are tired of listening to my shit, much less paying to listen to more from different sources.

and am working on another.

I try to find You Tube clips they would find most appealing (i.e. don't send the Brittany Spears clip to a die-hard political junkie).

I also emailed a couple of post game show MP3's to show them what they're missing (the uncensored, kick ass fun).

Finally, I pointed out that this is the perfect time of year to get into politics with the national election coming up (doesn't everyone want to be informed and entertained at the same time?).  Oh, and I explained what a great value it is.

$10 a month comes out to (very roughly) 45+ hours of *commercial free* entertainment, or 11-12 (or more) hours of informative entertaininment a week for $2.50.

PS---Don't make them think they have to sit and watch the webstream.  Encourage downloading MP3's to MP3 players so they can listen when they're doing whatever (it gets old constantly listening to music IMO). Also, there's that $20 wireless transmitter that allows you to listen to your MP3 player in your car over your FM stereo.

If all else fails, just tell them Ana is hot and that they can see her on the post game show.  :)

every time there's a Turks video on Democratic Underground, there are always positive comments about Cenk's passion and humor.

I always post a comment saying 'Turks Rule' and exhort the readers to contribute.

when you get enough comments you'll be able to recommened them too.

PS---You know for $20 or so you can buy the wireless FM transmitter to listen to TYT podcasts in your car through your car spakers (through your MP3 player) right?  Unless you don't have an MP3 player.

But if you don't care about music, you can buy a really cheap, low memory (1GB) one for $60 (or less), more than enough to download a bunch of episodes and post game shows.

I just don't like having to go to all that trouble when I've been able to listen to them a long time just by turning on my radio. I can always hear them online once I get here to work......it's just that this fucks up my commute big time. Maybe I'll have to buy the xm satellite. I don't think they're going back to Sirius.....are they??

Also: I still don't understand how that recommend and k/r stuff works on DU. I just post and read...haven't seen any help files or infos that would clear that up for me.

I was a Premium Air America member, but now that AAR is really gone to the crapper, I moved my money over to TYT.  I always listened to TYT the day after on podcasts.  Every time I really get into a show (Morning Sedition, The Marc Maron Show, The Majority Report, The Sam Seder Show (daily)) AAR seems to shit-can it.  And now that they sent Kent Jones packing from Rachel's show, her show has lost it's comedic value for me.

As far as getting a friend to join as a member, none of my friends listen to talk radio... I'm the only political nerd I know.

AVANTI!

by avant1963 on 01/06/2008 06:28:02 AM EST

I think there are a lot of non-political nerds that could get into it, especially this year with the election stuff.
And also because the show is funny, includes non-political talk and does a great job of breaking down complicated issues and making them easy to understand for the average person.

Average dopes (well, a good number of them) try not to feel like average dopes in these election years and make some effort to find out what's going on...this year especially as evidenced by the Iowa democratic caucus turnout.

Of course there are those to go out of their way to NOT learn anything, because they either have ZERO interest or they're apathetic cynics (i.e. I hate politics, they're all the same, nothing changes, etc.).

What about that Sirius rumor?

A lot of the crew has Sirius jackets and I heard Cenk in one of the post-game shows I think say something to a guest like:"Ah, you got Sirius satellite radio? That could be useful in the future. I'm not saying anything, I'm just saying."

Either way I listen online so I don't really care. It's just that the more exposure, the better.

Any way you cut it. TYT will rock on.  Podcast.. net.. Sirius..its all good to me. Drudge is "net only" and he probably has more influence than any right wing radio talk show host.
