this scares my family: immigrants who fled nazi-germany

Google Technorati del.icio.us digg reddit
I thought I'd add another perspective: those of my family who remember nazi-era Germany and left for fear of a fascist gov't.  They now realize the power of the vote and pay close attention to politics, and they are paying very close attention to McCain....and they are worrying...

I'm thankful that my family always spoke about politics and the state of our country when I was growing up and especially now...when current events are unfortunately forcing them to remember why they immigrated to this country in the first place:  a dictator.

They have the personal experience, which most of us don't of what CAN go wrong when people "elect" someone out of fear, hate, and anger over their current situation (understand that post-WWI Germany was not so pretty visually and economically).  A knee jerk reaction led to a man who liked to BLAME others for Germany's situation (jews, gays, mentally retarded, gypsies, political enemies namely the old monarchy) come to power and STAY in power.  Which of course led to another world-wide war.

McCain is speaking right now, and I'm watching the examples right now on TYT, inciting people to BLAME others for their current situation in life....blame Obama, he's black, a "terrorist", and unamerican....he's why the country is having trouble...stop him, elect me, and overnight everything will be swell.

And in inciting those people to BLAME others, he's inciting violence.

I already posted that I came into a confrontation with a man at a petrol station who told me he wants Obama to be shot and he'll have no problem buying a gun and killing him himself if he ever saw him in person.

This is disgusting.  I've never been one to be ostentatious and logo my life with bumper stickers, pins, stickers, and signs showing my support for a candidate.  I always thought it was a personal decision, and I always kept it personal.

Until now. For the first time in my life, I'm going to advertise for a politician.  I'm putting an Obama magnet on my car and staking an Obama sign in my yard.  I've even joined my local young dems group in the city I live to actively promote Obama and local politicians.

huge ostentatious logo

It's gone too far, and I'd like to help.  Thank you McCain for getting me politically active in my community.

I am also of German decent and agree with you wholeheartedly.  Also like the M3. I have an 09 135i to arrive the 24th of this month.  Had a couple of 3 series and loved them. The 135i will have same engine as the M3 with twin turbochargers.  Love German engineering.  BTW, while I am waiting on my car I am driving a Ford Pickup with Obama magnets on it.  Don't be supprised if you get the finger or screamed at by re THUG lican rednecks.  It has already happened to me.  I live in TN which is hard core re THUG lican with mindless bigots intermingled throughout the poplulation.  Afraid if I put Obama magnet on the new car some crazy re THUG lican redneck will shoot me, or worse my car.

My wife makes our family recycle everthing to lower the carbon footprint made by the cars I like to drive.  She has a Boxter but leaves it in the garage and drives a Preius. Guess so she won't feel so guilty. BTW the Toyota is a super duper nice vehicle but it won't do 150 MPH or get to 62 MPH in 5.1 sec.

Good to see another TURK from German roots and one that indulges in the "Ultimate Driving Experience."

PEACE OUT

Hopefully since I live in Massachusetts I don't get magnet-induced car abuse.  Also, my neighborhood is awash with Obama stickers and signs, so probably wouldn't have any trouble from some right-wing nut with a bat.

I understand where your wife is coming from.  I switched to biodiesel to heat my home b/c I've been worrying that I drive too much...and that I'm constantly amazed how petrol costs so much more above wholesale ($2).

Alas, I do enjoy driving the m3, although it can only go out in non-winter months (and usually I would only drive it to work).  Rear-wheel drive, Mass winters, and uber amounts of salt keep me from taking her out come november.  Mostly, I drive around in my rav4, I love toyotas.  Wonderful little suv.  Greatest thing for driving on pavement/sand/dirt, and going to ikea.  I've actually been able to stick a dining room table plus all 6 chairs in it before... it's very much like mary poppin's carpetbag.  My husband, though, perfers audis...so there's a bit of competition there.
