I sympathize with the American people right now.

Canada used to have an extensive deficit (considering our population/tax base and lack of jobs at the time). It took 5 years for the Liberals to get our budget balanced (as they promised to do within that time ... when Paul Martin was our Min. of Finance).

I knew as soon as they announced their budget plans, that we Canadians were in for tough (or tougher) times. What I didn't realize was how tough it would be for me too (thinking I was immune to it).

But we came through it, balanced the budget, started paying down the debt and ended up with a $3B surplus. Unfortunately, before Lib's could start spending in areas they hoped such as our Health Care System, the Liberals lost the next election due to the money scandel arrising from the Quebec Referendum funds. Yes... "some" Liberals stole money ..lots of it. But they left us with the lowest unemployment rate in over 30 years, a budget surplus and a reduced national debt.

The PC's have ridden the Liberal wave for 2.5 years, spent much of the surplus (probably on themselves .. we don't know because they haven't provided "transparency" like they promised), and have made choices that have resulted in our employment rate taking another plunge.

Anyway, my point is that if Obama's Government plays their chips right, you will come out of these difficult times. But be prepared for tight times (tighter than they are now) for a short while before Obama is able to follow through with many of his promises (or to the scale he'd hoped). I know you will come through it because all the politicians are right about one thing (at least). You are a Strong Nation of Strong and Hard Working People. So with the right guidance and governing, I trust USA will someday again become the nation it once was and probably even better (even in the eyes of the rest of the world).
