It seemed from the story that she's a member of some catholic sect or other. Can anyone shed some light on that? Will the pope excommunicate her now?

but within the Roman Catholic church there a many accepted orders and sects within the church, so is very much possible

to me Opus Dei seems like the Church's version of Skull & Bones :)

just found a comment on this story by a dumb conservative "Let's not forget that the Catholic Church Is Socialist"
man, how ignorant can she be, if she knew anything about history and even current Euro news, she would know that the Catholic Church and Socialist parties have been mortal enemies, nowadays there is mostly a detente, but just because Socialists and other democratic parties have kicked their asses into submission

loved how Zapatero has been kicking the Spanish Catholic Church's ass these last couple of years

Eh, you really need to check your terminology.

Socialists have come in two varieties:

A) The Marxist variety.

B) The Catholic variety.

In the 19th century the Catholic social movement was born. Many labor-unions were and are Christian or very close to the Catholic Church.

As for the Church in general, well, it's always been against dancing around the golden calf of unbridled capitalism.

Just consider Pope John Paul's and Pope Benedict's pronouncements.  They're  quite harsh.

Now, you can't  pidgeonhole a  faith into  a  particular  politicial leaning as such. But  protecting the poor  has always been a constant in church history. Always considered a major part of the church's job.

Of course, the more corrupt popes, bishops and such, didn't always walk the walk. Typical human weaknesses... But the ideal was always clear.

For a Thatcherite or Grover-Norquist-type, sure, the Catholic Church seems socialist. But hey, they call everyone socialist who isn't on their side...

In any case, you're dead wrong about equating socialism with marxism. That's just historically incorrect.

first thought about my comment, but you end with "In any case, you're dead wrong about equating socialism with marxism. That's just historically incorrect" which I clearly NEVER stated and constantly declare on TYT that socialists and communists are NOT the same thing
