Third Debate Discussion Thread

Is McCain the weirdest man to ever run for President?  Do Republicans have anything to run on other than "lower taxes", even though that's largely bullshit?  Does anybody know any plumbers in Ohio?  Do either of these candidates realize what a disaster the US has created by Plan Colombia? Why does Obama refuse to hit back?  What do you all think about the third and final debate?  Please keep your comments here.  And we'll see you on November 4th for the conclusion of all this.

McCain may not be the weirdest but he certainly is the angriest.  Republicans are currently at an ideologic standstill.  They are wrestling with the thesis and stasis of of an archaic way of thinking.  There is no youth and energy in the party. The party is comprised of baby boomers, who are mostly either out of the loop, rich and corrupt, too old to understand the new global landscapes circumstances.  Plumbers deal with sewage, perhaps that is why McCain identifies with them.  Regarding Colombia, Obama did mention that we shouldn't rush any agreements in Colombia considering their current violent and unstable atmosphere.  Obama refuses to hit back because at this point he doesn't need to.  By hitting back he risks alienating himself from independents who like John McCain but are looking at their wallets feeling scared.  He's measured, stately and is waging a campaign with the motto "if it ain't broke don't fix it".  The third and final debate will fuel the Republican base, will bring the race closer, will give McCain some hope, and will mean that Obama will have to work a little harder, but in the end people's money or lack thereof will win the election.

I timed it.

It was 40 seconds in between when that hack Pat Buchanan said Obama was "retreating to solid liberal ground" till he said "Every time you see Obama he moves towards the center".  Forty Seconds!

Conservatives are panicking.

Forty Seconds!

Palin in 2012? Bitch, please! No, really, please run in 2012, bitch. ;)

I heard that, but it didn't register at the time.  I bet even Pat votes for Obama once he is in that booth.  He just doesn't want to be kicked out of the new Evangelical Party.

I'm certain Pat Buchanan will vote for Obama.

Much like other conservatives and evangelicals voting for Obama.  I actually enjoy watching Rachel debate him, because he thinks for himself instead of parroting talking points.

But he does inevitably start to plug some talking points in by the end. Or he says something he believes, goes home and gets slammed by all his friends and then comes back and goes to the talking points for a day or two. But I think he really is starting to just say whatever he thinks since he's really gettin up there in age now and just doesn't give a damn. I like it.

when he repeats that tired line over and over that "most of the country is right of the center?"

face  when Obama said... let me tell you how much he would be fined  ZERO  made me laugh out loud.

This guy definitely does not have the temperament to be president.

Its all bomb .. shoot ... kill

That fugger is in love with war... not the troops

When he said he was proud of the people that go to his KKK rallies .. I gagged..  Then he started talking  about veterans again.

The military angle is the only way he can relate to anything.

How the HELL did he get re elected to represent Arizona?

When Obama was asked about Palin and he just let it go. I thought right then that was smart. I guess the pundits after the debate thought it was smart too.

McCain  came across as a crazy old man AGAIN..  Didn't anyone tell him that  grumpy old nut ball shit doesn't really endear anyone??  Its like he cant help it.

as an "intervention" before he quickly changed the end of his sentence (about 24 minutes into the debate-and there sat Caroline, and the rest of the country!!) From that point on, it was drastically downhill for that lizard-blinking loser!!! His grimaces (I think these were attempts to appear to smile,) head-shakes, smirks, he was on his way to an angry tirade for sure, and I'd hate to have been Cindy and had to go home with him!!! How about those air quotes around "health" in reference to the health of the mother in the abortion issue??????? McCain, go quietly off the national stage and get out of our sight!!

All the debates were bad. The questions were lame. We learned nothing new in the debates. Joe T. Plumber asked better questions. At least he elicited a revealing response from Sen. Obama.

I'd like to see Barack Obama tell a plumber who just billed him a hundred bucks, "Here's seventy five bucks. I don't want to punish you, but I'm spreading the rest of your wealth around to those behind you."

owes back taxes and property taxes.  He's registered Republican, not "undecided" as he said.  Turns out he confused "making $250k per year" and owning a business worth $250k a year.  He would actually get a TAX CUT under Obama's plan.  So much for the plumber.

by desertpear on 10/16/2008 06:51:42 PM EST

You have to pay taxes for someone to cut them.

Forcing this jerkoff to pay any taxes would technically be a tax increase.

Joe T. Plumber is not the issue, so the tax lien and anything else dug up is meaningless. The issue is Barack's response to Joe's question. In answering the question, Barack let his mask slip and revealed his true self.

You don't get it.  McCain's tax policy is designed to provide imaginary relief to imaginary people with imaginary problems.

McCain almost began to fell the slight stirrings of an erection when he thought he found a guy who really did make his tax plan look like something more than the vile money grab for the wealthy it is.  He went way overboard with it and ended up looking foolish.

See, the problem is the only middle class Americans he is trying to help are the made up ones.

Why can't you see this?

You don't get it.  McCain's tax policy is designed to provide imaginary relief to imaginary people with imaginary problems.

Does that mean McCain will win the votes of the Imaginary-Americans Acorn has been so busy registering?

by Twba on 10/18/2008 10:14:03 AM EST

No.  And the fact that McCain can't even win votes from imaginary folks is an astounding testimony to his ultimate lack of electability.  McCain won't even get a vote from the imaginary character called Twba.

No really.

In fact, one thing I will give McCain is he is a very funny guy.

He is a lot like Bob Dole.  Funny.  Old.  Longtime powerful Senator.  Not going to be President.

Why is Obama proposing the same economic policies that turned a recession into the Great Depression? Does Obama know anything about economics?

To be honest to Joe the Plumber and tell him that in reality under Obama's plan his taxes wont go up unless he makes over 250 thousand dollars and then ONLY the amount he makes over 250 thousand dollars would be taxed.

Id like McCain to admit that Obama has stated repeatedly that he would put in place tax breaks for small business and additionally implement a plan to rescue small business.

Id like McCain to be honest and admit that he would give tax breaks to the oil companies and tax health insurance benefits.

Id like McCain to be honest and admit that when he said the fundamentals of the economy are strong. He had no idea what he was talking about and didnt mean "the workers " at all.

Id like McCain to be honest and admit that he doesn't really know any un licensed plumbers that would make a quarter of a million dollars a year.

Wouldn't you Twba? Honesty would be so refreshing

hatchet first, scalpel later. Makes me think of his war theory: kill the "gooks" first, ask questions later.
