McCain on Meet the Press... LOL!!! Hilarious! w/ a SHOCKER @ the end!

Okay, so I think every American should see this. It's better than the debates! HILARIOUS!!

P.S. In my perspective, Brokaw has up to this point been in. He might've ended on a soft note, but overall, I thought he stepped it up. He either woke up, or his producers finally said something. I think Meet the Press might be back :)

Some jewels from the interview...

1. @ 5:30 - "On general overall philosophy... I respect the President of the United States."

BWAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!

2.  @ 10:45 - Brokaw schools McCain on Reagan's tax policy.

3. Just before 13:00, again talking about tax policy - McCain: "Obama...the left-hand lane of American politics... and I respect that."

WHAT?!?! And then Brokaw comes out and shows video of McCain saying it's okay for higher income Americans to pay more taxes, which is in fact, "spreading the wealth".

4.  @ 15:50 - "The cause of the crisis, is the housing crisis" Really Mr.McCain?

So the fact that the Asian & European financial markets are going under is because American's can't pay their mortgages? Wow, either you are oversimplifying it, or you don't get it.

5. McCain can't defend his "socialism" label, in the face of repeated claims for clarification from Brokaw.

6. @ 21:50 - McCain (about Palin): "I don't defend her, I praise her"

Brokaw: "Most people don't think she's qualified-"

McCain (interrupting): " -because?!"

Then Brokaw puts him in smack in his place.

McCain then laughs uncomfortably, and goes off on a list of positive qualities about her, ending with, "it may sound like I'm defending her..." LOL!!!

7. The interview does take a sad turn @27:00 - John McCain thinks Gen. Colin Powell's support of Barack Obama is about Race.

He flat out does not repudiate the statements of Rush Limbaugh that Powell's support is "all about race". Let the race-baiting continue.... way to keep the political discourse high-brow Mr. McCain.

You left out my favorite part of the Interview:

"I guarantee you that two weeks from now, you will see this has been a very close race, and I believe that I'm going to win it.

"We're going to do well in this campaign, my friend. We're going to win it, and it's going to be tight, and we're going to be up late."

by rbruck on 10/26/2008 02:54:19 PM EST

He KILLED those talking points.

by richardshort2001 on 10/26/2008 02:57:17 PM EST

to what McCain said about Obama raising tax increases on $200,000 and up now?

by richardshort2001 on 10/26/2008 03:21:19 PM EST

I see the $200,000 is for single taxpayers.

Yay, google.

It's always nice to see McCain flake out, yet I remain very scared. Like the post-interview commenter who spoke of the Obama camp mood....I keep wondering what's out there and cannot believe it's really going to happen. Brokaw on the post-interview segment was still (incorrectly) accusing Obama of breaking his "promise" on campaign finance reform, and I have real fears about the silent but menacing vote-purge tsunami that could well be heading toward polls near all of us.

On the bright side, I was eating my cup of tomato bisque the other day in a restaurant that caters to upper middle class Republican retirees in my community. Some retired couples came and were seated close enough to me that I could hear their conversation. They had old-fashioned sing-song deep Georgia accents and all four of them were going on and on about how McCain was pulling out all the tricks he could think of to smear Obama and how sick of it they all were. My heart lifted when in a clear assured voice, one of the elderly women announced that she was an "O-BA-ma MA-ma." There is hope.

But he actually came through in this interview.  Maybe he channeled the spirit of big tim on this one and finally grew some cajones to ask a real question.  and he busted mccain's balls and showed mccain vs. bizarro mccain.  i still think he's a punk

I still have yet to watch it, but when I saw that he guaranteed himself a win, I couldn't help but think about the voting machines and voter suppression efforts and other evil things.

Maybe they are only hoping that by saying the race is closer than it is, people will believe the polls are wrong, and by invoking the "Bradley effect" it will cover for the fact that they are going to steal another election from the people.  For God and Cuntry of course.

that's my paranoid side.  I wish it were over!!!

I'm so tired of Republicans lying to the country with a straight face.  Palin is an expert, but McCain has learned well, hasn't he?

It seems more motivated by desperation than by the knowledge of an evil plot.

Not sayin otherwise, just sayin

because he is in a desperate (=hopeless) situation at this point.

Keep meaning to say:  love your signature.

It was inspired by the several times I have read a comment and thought, "That last line made no sense at all.  Oh, it's a signature.".

He couldn't have sounded worse than when he tried to come up with the fifth name of the past secretary of state who supports him!! Then he went back to naming the guy when Brokaw had moved on!! I LOVED that Tom had to bring McCain back by actually saying: "Stay with me for a minute here..." I love that Tom kept referring to the polls, much to McSame's chagrin. Finally, it always remains unspoken the agony that his wife must have been going through when the word came that he'd been shot down in Vietnam. Her reward was to be cheated on and dumped for the wealthy Cindy. I can't stand his face, "my friends!"

by tifosies on 10/26/2008 05:04:18 PM EST

It was kinda sad, wasn't it, when he couldn't remember those names. Do you remember when Brian Williams asked about the Colin Powell endorsement a few days ago and Gov. Palin came to McCain's defense by saying he was endorsed by five former secretaries of state? You could almost see the wheels turning behind his beady, blinky eyes as he was trying (when he wasn't gawking at her legs) to find an opportunity to name all five of them, just like a kid in grade school who is praised by his parents' friends for his science project and then wants to tell them all about it.

Well, take a look at the McCain from 8 years ago and compare him to the McCain of today (especially after the four minute timer). He was so much more focused and articulate in 2000. As my octogenarian mom would say, he's beginning to fail. We can only imagine how bad it will be in 4 more years.

It sounded to me like Brokaw was trying to give someone he considers a valiant old soldier the chance to finally redeem himself as a decent guy. Sadly, McCain failed to take advantage of the opportunity.

I have counted at least 6 burps in the first 15 minutes.  Not out and out belches, but you can clearly see him recoil as the gas comes up and the last one (at about the 14 minute mark) actually made an audible sound.  Either McCain is burping on national TV or his own body is rejecting the BS coming out of his mouth.

I've already early voted for Obama, so this interview isn't going to change my mind one way or another.  Yet, I swear, if I was an undecided, seeing McCain gasp every 3 minutes as he lets a burp out might as well be the kiss of death.  He already has problems with his looks/appearance/demeanor/a ttitude/etc...  would it have killed him to NOT burp on TV, too?

Kang, man, you need to get out more. lol

I appreciate the errant bodily discharge from time to time and all, but c'mon... seriously?! I didn't quite see that.

I do think McCain's voice was pretty darn hoarse, probably from speaking way too much. Heck, my grandma's voice is always a little creeky, and she isn't on any campaign trail...

But I did notice several time that Brokaw scoffed, or mumbled under his breath whenever McCain evaded a question, or outright denied the facts.  So maybe the culprit is Old Tom-Boy.

I think if the guy really had been burping, they would've retaped the whole show later on after getting him some GasX. He is running for President after all... someone around there is getting paid to work.

You are right--just total desperation.  Nervous laughter throughout.

When he called Tom "my friend," it was so awkward; one suspects he does that to avoid forgetting someone's name.  Wouldn't "Tom" have sounded better? But what if it isn't Tom?

Painful when he forgets the fifth Secretary of State.  He has to recite them twice, hoping to automatically remember it as a list he has memorized.  When he fails twice--ugh, painful.

I must say, this is the first time I have seen Brokaw be a decent newsman in this campaign.  I'm glad he finally followed up to challenge these ridiculous assertions of McCain and Palin.
