Racism at McCain Rally -- Denver, CO

OMFG! These people make the Ohio McCain supporters from the Al Jazeera report seem sane in comparison...

I found this article by Adam Serwer on prospect.org

Right-wing attempts to paint Barack Obama as a socialist aren't just disingenuous. They're rooted in a history of conservative smears against black leaders.

I noticed that almost everyone who entered that place would yell out Socialist... was that the new word of the day in their local newspaper? If they really know what it means...use it in a sentence people! Yelling it out randomly doesn't prove you are smart or even remotely close to knowing what it means. And then the one guy heard the man in front of him yell out Communist and of course he started saying it too, stupidity loves company!

It sickens me to see why racism will never die, if that's how you raise your children... to yell out "monkey president" the cycle will not be broken.

these guys just make america look bad...what is this the 1950's? Chris

Obama's economic policies "racist" Chris?

These people might be wrong, and they might not understand the ups and downs of the economy, but why do you, as an African American, automatically label them as "racists"?

Thats what is pissing white people off - even those who truly arent racists - the assumption that if you dont support Obama or agree with his ideas makes one automatically a racist - thats dangerous, Chris, and you know it...

And you guys wonder why you are seeing such anger on the campaign trail?

:)

You are trying too hard to disagree with your brother Obama supporters, rednecks, hippies, and hand-holding commie friends!!  peace and love.

I agree that racism doesn't cover all areas shown in these videos.  It does however cover that young girl doing the monkey dance and the adults she must have gotten that notion from.  And the people in the Ohio video (being from Ohio that one is particularly embarrassing) has some more up-front racism...stuff like blacks will take over, a black running against a white is always going to be a second stringer, etc.

I certainly can agree, you can differ with Obama about economic topics, but if you express that by shaking your fist and yelling "Commie!" it makes me think there is something else behind that, besides the 3 words taken out of context of a longer statement about our decades-old progressive tax system that has long supported programs to help those lower on the socio-economic ladder.

My mom says she doesn't favor Obama because she doesn't want to see the country become more socialist than it already is.  That's fine, we can agree to disagree.  But she has no need to express it with aggression to the degree that some in these videos do.

Call it xenophobia if that's better, but there has to be something more at work to get the spittle flying like this than "I don't approve of any increase in social programs for the poor."  That's at a 2 and these people are at an 11.

I re-watched the video and I noticed the girl at the beginning - that was pretty bad... I'm just tired of Liberals accusing everyone who happens to disagree with Obama as being "racist" - its an easy cop out and it irritates me to no end! :)

I like this weak phrase, "happens to disagree with Obama."  Makes it sound like these things just happen by chance, or maybe by genetics. (On second thought, being the child of a pair of first cousins could possibly cause one to disagree with Obama.)

to the top video, not the Ohio one...

The Ohio video is full of redneck racists - but then again, it IS Ohio!

"Monkey President"

Yes it was a little girl, but did the parents have the integrity to correct her?  I wonder where she learned that.

There is a reason Rush Limbaugh uses race baiting tactics on his show.  He knows, better than anyone, what the conservative base wants to hear.  He is, after all, #1 on talk radio.

i said i feel bad for NON-RACIST WHITE PEOPLE...that was a serious statement not meant to be sarcastic...but yet somehow you accused me of calling the people in the video racist...bobo, surely you think better of me than that...i do not pose arguments based on race, because personally i don't believe in race, however, I don't deny that racists exist.  I didn't call the people in the video racist, however their words made it seem like I WAS CALLING THEM RACIST...Look bobo, the thing is, this campaign has race issues involved, and some racist people have shown their face.  You should do yourself a favor and stop defending ALL white people, because ALL white people aren't tolerant of minorities, and a few WILL vote based on race, the same is true of a FEW blacks.  Most blacks vote on issues, as with MOST whites.  It's just  few idiots that misrepresent all of us.

southern ohio and northern ohio are two different worlds.  there is a video of strongsville, ohio, which is just south of cleveland.  but, when i say southern ohio, i don't necessarily mean south of mid-state.  toledo and cleveland and even sandusky, which gets a lot of out of towners, are NOTHING like rural ohio.  i grew up in toledo, and lived in cleveland for many years (before FINALLY escaping to the gorgeous liberal haven of l.a.) and it never ceased to amaze me how different rural and southern urban ohioans are from the cities of the north.
and bobo, as a white woman, let me tell you why i usually suspect racism when someone tells me they don't like senator obama.  it has to do with the fact that almost every white person who says they aren't voting for obama says one of these reasons:  william ayers, socialism, muslim, not an american citizen.
HA.
john mccain is friends with g. gordon liddy.  where's your anger/suspicion over that?
john mccain supports the government buying up foreclosed homes.  socialism, anyone?
john mccain DOES support redistribution of wealth - only he wants to spread the wealth to those already wealthy.  it's STILL spreading the wealth.
john mccain claims to be baptist, but has never been baptised.  and while senator obama can quote from the bible, and not just the handful of verses most people know, i've never once heard john mccain speak from the heart, nor from the bible.  yet, where are the christians doubting john mccain's faith?
john mccain was born in panama.  yeah, i know, on a navy base - but, as obama was born in hawaii, it seems to me that john mccain's citizenship is far more debatable than senator obama's.
not to mention, senator obama graduated top of harvard, was president of the harvard law review, taught constitutional law, and is an incredibly intelligent, well-spoken, rational man.  can you not, just for a moment, imagine he's white - can you not see how if he were white, he'd be considered the greatest candidate across the board?  see, it's the failure of most mccain supporters to see obama objectively, and to judge him by his policies, that makes me suspect racism.  no one is claiming ludicrous smears about the old white guy.  why is that?  and i honestly, without hesitation, suspect all these cries of socialism, communism, terrorist, muslim, arab, etc....are merely a subsitute, because most white people, no matter how dumb, do realize they can no longer get away with crying out "n***er".  only their small children, mocking a brilliant man with "monkey president" and low i.q. hicks carrying monkey dolls, or blatantly saying "i won't vote for a nigra/the black guy" or saying "the blacks will take over" can "get away" with racism.  but, the slightly higher i.q. racist whites have found other words/smears to vent their racist crap.
and i know i'm not wrong.  you, in your desire to see your candidate as president, are the one incapable of being objective about this.  and i'm not claiming you're racist...i just think you can't see the racism of many of your fellow mccain suporters, because the racist bastards are voting for the candidate you support-and i think, in the end, that is what keeps the non-racist mccain supporters from objectively seeing that many white mccain supporters ARE racist.

It is a pity the republicans decend into hate.

McCain has gone negative because these people exist, and they feed off the hate that McCain and right wing talk shows and Fox spew out all day.

WHY do we see these people singing the praises of their party?
WHY don't we see these people singing the praises of McCain?

Who is dividing America? Who would incite such hatred throughout the country just to win an election?

Someone who says 'COUNTRY FIRST' ?

Which COUNTRY comes first?

by Maverick on 10/26/2008 10:30:29 PM EST

That should read:

WHY don't we see these people singing the praises of their party?

Its a sad day when 'Americans' would incite social unrest to gain political popularity.

I can deal with adults making fools of themselves, I can shrug it off, but seeing children emulate their parents' ignorance in high-pitched, eager voices chills me to the bone.  Especially when they say things like "monkey president."  Ugh...  That sort of speech doesn't come out of nowhere.

And the man holding a little boy yelling "Bullshit!  What a piece of crap!"  Great example you're setting for your son, there.

God!  What awful parents.  I'm so ashamed for the babies and children of America.

by marlonm on 10/26/2008 10:41:37 PM EST

I have a daughter and I also got a chill seeing this.

This girl will most likely be very ashamed one day and it may damage her for life.

Some people should not be allowed to breed, and if they do then I can see a real case for removing the children from such families.

One of Americas darkest days, divisions and hatred fueled by the right wing talk shows, Fox, and the republican camaign.

This morning at least 110k people went to see Obama in Denver.  The mood of the rally I was at was a little different.  It felt like a victory tour.  It seems inconceivable that if 1 out of every 30 Coloradans showed up today to see Obama that he could lose.  We're going to keep plugging away until 7pm Nov 4th, though.

by schmoab on 10/27/2008 02:32:08 AM EST

The folks at the Colorado rally sounded like they could've been members of this group.

Also, what's up with that guy saying "God may not be on my side, but Satan is on your side"? And then the guy with the pink beret...

by LudwigVan on 10/27/2008 08:06:26 AM EST

that god created satan, so using his logic, god endorsed Obama through satan...
